I am pondering selling my 85 GT ...........Sold

Post by Greg D »

Don't get me wrong here, it's a nice car and I like it alot however.
I am in a way bored with it, it doesn't need anything. I don't want to mod the car it's too nice. I rarely drive it. I not interested in the local Mustang club so it offers me no social activity. I really like traditional hotrodding like I am doing with my 62 Uni. It just seems to me it would be a good thing for the car to be in the hands of someone who would show it, drive it, and get it out to be appreciated by others. I don't need the $ from it either. I could however use the room for the T I want to build. I had it in a storage garage this last summer while I did some heavy work on my truck but worried about it constantly because it wasn't home. I sort of feel I do it an injustice letting play garage queen too. I know it isn't a Boss 429 but it's far too nice to be a daily driver even in fair weather. I usually only go to the types of events where my 62 fits in - they are the most fun for me. I know none of you can decide for me. Considering this actually depresses from both directions. I guess I am just venting abit where some will also understand my appreciation for the car. I would definitely want it to go to someone who will care for it though if I did sell it.
Thanks for letting me vent,
Greg

though it may not be a boss, unmolested nice original condition foxes are bringing good money. i would think you wouldn't have too hard a time finding it a good home for a good price.

Greg. i was in the same boat with the Bricklin. It needs a new rad and and a brake booster at minimum, and i wasn't going to do that work to it this year.

So, a guy who has been bugging me to sell it to him since i got it phones me up out of the blue... tells me when his house money is out of trust with the lawyers in his divorce case.. i have lost my car.

Haven't seen him yet tho. Be nice to have the room to work on the truck.
It's a race.. Will hell freeze over or will JC finish his truck first. Stay tuned..

Greg, you just need a huge garage, then this would be a non-issue. :P

Why would you want to spend the money on something you are bored with? One more set of tires, one more insurance, one more battery, one more alternator, etc, etc. All this for a vehicle you seldom drive, have no real club ties, and are bored with. You seem to lack that in the gut car love for this car. So, that's where I came up with "Sell it!!" Thanks, Lyman.

I am still considering that. I did look it up here. Read the value descriptions my car fits the last one "Excellent" This is one of the things that makes it hard to part with - it's one of the nicest there is out there.
Lyman, I do have a "in the gut" love for the car. It's one of the reasons I think it might be better with someone who gets her out more. Kind of a "If you love it let it go" thing, I want it appreciated.

Thanks Stoffer, doesn't make her any easier to give up, lol.
On the other hand, too nice to spend it's life under a cover in the garage.
Gotten some good feedback on my 79-86 Stang forum too, and these guy really know these cars.

Greg, VERY NICE! For sure one of the nicest 85's I have seen most are butchered and beat.

I have a real soft spot for that year because I worked in a Ford dealer back in '85. Remember if one came in with a complaint of a bit rough running I would pull the carb knock out the 4 corner idle plugs and they would run soooooooo smooth it was unreal. Pretty soon the whole town who had the carbed versions would be bringing them in for a little tweak and tune. (same with the 351w equipped vans)

Ones in the shape of yours are near impossible to come by. Just yesterday was admiring a red one that was fresh restored. Sounded great and did have a full cage in it.

Keep it. Love the four eyes.
My brother-in-law has a jalapeno red 86GT. Single turboed 351, five lug swap, roll cage, etc. Rather than sell the car one time when he needed the money, he sold the whole drivetrain and wheels.
You will wish that you had it back one day, but it will be harder to find a replacement as nice.

Mark, I regret even considering it. I do believe I regret letting it just sit more though.
