Voltage regulator

Post by The Big M »

Are there any options for upgrading the voltage regulator while still running a generator and points ignition? Or will a stock points-style replacement be sufficient?

I'll be running a 223 inline 6 out of a '58 Fairlane.

Nothin' wrong with the points style regulators. I went through 3 solid state ones while trying to get the wiring right. One wrong connection and they are fried. I am back to the original style and have no problems.

i agree.
when i got my first slick several years ago, the gen light stayed on and did not charge.i put a known good regulator from a much later truck and it immediately fried.bought one of the original style, before installing it i took my generator apart, found one brush stuck in its holder.freed it up, and got several years more life out of it before the brushes wore down and i sswapped it out for another.still running the same points reg.
