352 4 barrel intake question

Hit the jack pot at the salvage yard this morning. They got a '65 Galaxie 500 with a 352 4V in it. They only want $25 for the intake and my question is should I use the heads also or will my 2V engine work just fine with the 4V intake?

I did get the HB and pulleys for my PS so all I need to now are the belts that is after I sand blast the rust off where the belt rides.

65 Galaxy with 352 4v were rated at 250hp. I had a honey gold 2dr. hardtop. $2800new.

Yea it was sad seeing that Galaxie in the salvage yard. Body was really not in bad shape, hadn't been wrecked or anything like that and the motor wasn't locked up either.

I had a '69 model 2dr with a 390 a few yrs ago. Got it from a little old lady who had to park it because she was too old to drive. Had 92,000 original miles on her. Set up 10yrs before I got it.
Had the original paint too that still shined like the sun when waxed.

i assume it is the cast iron intake.took one off my 390 earlier this year and replaced it with an edelbrock aluminum one.hope that is the last one i have to lift as they are back-busters.the cast iron one is in storage just in case i do feel like Hercules again someday.

Yep Iceman it is a cast iron intake but for 25 bucks I just can't pass it up.

A lot of the FE experts claim that the stock cast iron 4bbl intake flows as well if not better than the Edelbrock Performer. I have a couple of the stock intakes including the one I removed from my 66. Despite the "facts". the Edelbrock looks soooooo much nicer one my 390!
Be careful installing that intake. You might want to consider getting help or using an engine hoist.

when i had one of the old style big block ford engine and needed to replace the intake gasket or go to the 4v setup i used a engine hoist to remove it that way it only takes one to do the job and it's safer for your back as well . i am always looking for faster and safer ways to do things on a car or a truck just a tip from me to you

You don't have to remind me about back problems, I had back surgery 10yrs ago.

I don't have an engine hoist but I do have a nieghbor(who owns a '70 Bumpside btw) who just loves getting his hands dirty. You know the kind who is always willing to help even if ya don't need it.

He went with me yesterday to get the HB and pulleys. He was even kind enough to remind me of some other parts I needed like the pivot shaft assembly for the wiper arms. Found those on a '64 slick.

i am almost to that point had two shots in my lower back not to long ago my next step is surgery my L5 S1 is on longer there and they are telling me NOW that i have a fracture in my lower back and i dont know how that happen other than old age

I put a edelebrook on Big Slick for the main reason of lifting that heavy intake over the grill of a F-750 standing on a step latter trying to this

When I changed the heads on my 390, I used an engine crane for the same reason. Got a bad headgasket on it now, and ain't in a rush to fix it! Been parked for a couple years.

the worst thing on the FE intakes is the end seals . good place for those is the trash can.replace with black rtv sealant and allow a few minutes for it to begin setting up before installing.
i have made comments previously about using too much sealant and the intake area is where one needs to be careful, that said, since i have given up using the end seals, have never had leaks or issues of cork getting brittle over time, which is a common FE thing.

if you have hand installed or removed too many of these intakes as i have, you will be needing that long clutch z-bar spring attached to your neck and ankle to help you straighten up every time you bend over.too late for me, but the younger guys could still save their backs.i was told by several dealership mechanics that hand lifting of the FE intake was not allowed in the shop.more things i learned after the fact.

Iceman is telling you the truth. Things that you do when you are young ya pay for later in life. Heave lifting and using your hands for a hammer are just two dum things i did.

I quit working on big trucks and tractors (which I loved doing) because I dropped a dolly leg from a flatbed trailer off of the jack and it landed on my collar bone. No broken bones, but I was 19 then and 32 now and drop thingd out of my hand for no reason. I think they are related.
