Slick 60's

well I changed the points today, fuel filter, condencer, still no luck,, she fires right up, but will not idle, dies as soon as you let your foot off the gas pedal, any suggestions?? the linkage seems to be okay, I did not touch the carb, the only thing I did was spray the motor, she idled right after that just fine, it was after a two mile ride she started this mess,, like I said she reves up just fine ,no missing or sputter just no dle,, Help!!!!

Dry out the inside of your distributor cap and -or spar it with WD-40.

With what? Old crusty engines don't like being cleaned. Did you spray it with water to clean it?

My guess is that you unleased a vacumn leak. Use a can of ether or I have heard a propane torch (not lighted) held close to usual culprit sites will indentify the leak. So long as its pulling ouside air through a leak at idle, you are leaning out your idle mix and thus you get the sputtering. When you give that leak propane, your mixture goes rich and it will run better. So goes the theory.

Not bad advice to dry out the dizzy as well, but makes no sense that it misses only at idle from a wet dizzy...

the point gap is too small.will run fine at speed but not idle.
vac leak is possible too but only if you blasted out a piece of intake man. gasket.

Looked at your pics and noticed your running a six.
Kinda got me wondering if the intake manifold warped or cracked when you sprayed it

Also could be just coincidence at that time for a piece of crud to block the idle jet.

I wish there was a way I could post video to show you fellas., I'll dig into the carb and see if their is any leaks,, shoulda never sprayed her, washed off some important crud!!!

it's weird,, she snapped out of it!! idles like a champ,, went to the garage
to get some work done, decided to move her out to clean garage, and she just idled,, bout cried!!! big burden gone,, cleaned garage in a hurry and took her for a spin and vowed to to never wet her again,,engine that is!! now for the box,, when i scrubed it, peices of plastic was coming off where the box floor meets the cab,, could I replace this with culk, or silicone??

Glad the truck runs like it should. Are you talking about the seam sealer in the joint at front of box? Get some Quality body seam sealer in a caulking gun to fix it.

Auto body supply stores or good parts houses that sell paint.

Do NOT use silicone on any metal object.
Most silicones are an acid cure. There are some that are strictly air dry but they are useually the stuff we tend to not buy because it takes awhile to dry and has less strength.
Anyways, I've seen people seal thier windshields enough times with silicone. Six months later they have rust and put more silicone on over the rust, then they have holes.... and so on.
