i have been looking for a c6 transmission now somebody has told me that a column shiffted transmission is different from a floor shifted transmission i am told that p r n d 2 1 are reversed on the transmission so if you use a floor shifted transmission in a column shift vehicle 1 will be where p shoud be and vice versa anyone hear of this .this is new to me if it is true how can you tell if you are buying a column shift or floor shifed transmission or can you change this around on the tranny thanks

You have to either flip the shift arm, or perhaps replace it with a different one. But its not that complicated -- tranny place should be able to do it for you easy.
On a C4, I have learned, the column shift takes a different shift arm. But my tranny place that freshened up the tranny I found, when they heard I want to go to column shift, then popped the right shift arm on for free.
Now, I am not 100% sure that C4 and C6 are the same in this regard, but I am pretty sure.

it is true.
not sure of the years /models it affects but its not a major deal to switch, if you dont wish to a tranny shop would. i had to do a few long time ago, i had both types of trans laying around so just swapped out parts for what i needed.

My C6 has a clamp-on arm on the shift shaft. My builder tossed me 2-3 versions and it worked out well.
