Mounting Bed to Frame

Frame-off restoring a 1964 F100 2wd swb styleside. Are there supposed to be pads between the bed and frame mounts? I've seen some trucks with and others without. Not sure if they're factory or not. Anybody know?

I scored a rust-free bed off another truck and set it on my rebuilt chassis and the bed doesn't quite sit flat at all 8 bolt points. The forward-most mounting points sit about 1/4" off the frame. Wondering if I'm supposed to just crank the bed down to meet the frame or shim it.

unibodys are the only beds with rubber pads at all the mounting holes

not sure why you have the 1\4" discrepancy at the front, is it possible the bed is tweaked some on the bed crossmember or whoever removed it tried to pull it off without removing the 2 back bolts that you get to from underneath and bent something
the important thing to look at is the body lines being correct and srtaight ,if they are then i would use a spacer, if it looks high then check for damage

Hmm, well I'm the one who pulled the bed, so I know it wasn't damaged. It came off a clean, crash-free truck. I'm thinking my new frame must be tweaked then. 1/4" doesn't seem like enough to bother messing with though...

I went ahead and bolted the bed down with no shims and the body lines actually look really good, but I'm wondering if I'm putting any undue stress on the bed sheetmetal...

me personally no pads, no rubber between frame and pad,, All it is just another way a vendor to take some money from you without them knowing the out come like having ground issues on lights,, if the bolts are tight,, nothing to worry about

Mine does have wooden shims. The bed sat too low and rubbed the rear bumper top bolts without them and even then, there's no way I could get the bed to meet the cab lines without them. I would have preferred nothing like Tom suggested but it would require redrilling the bumper and then reducing the cab mount rubbers.

The 64-66 styleside trucks had wooden blocks. These fit inside the bracing at 4-6 places. You need these if they are missing. If they are there, they might not have their original dimensions anymore.
