For those that have named your truck or the project build, what was your inspiration?
How did you come up with a name?

Mine are "the '66", "the uni", "the Maverick" and now "the F150". Not very imaginative but everyone knows exactly what one I'm talking about.

Mine is named "Grace". Long time Jefferson Airplane and Jefferson Starship fan, but mostly a fan of Grace Slick.

Nadine got her name because when I walked out of the shop after I decided not to buy her Chuck Berry came on the oldies station and started singing.... "Nadine".
It was a message from God.
I went back and paid the man.
20+ years later, she's on her 3rd upgrade.

"The '65" could get a little confusing around my shop
I try to avoid naming them; my wife tends to name the semi-feral animals which show up for handouts, and I've seen where that leads!

My truck has a late-'70's bed on it. It matches even less than the fridge beds on the earlier slicks, hence Verywrongbed.

We had a 1965 F100, 240 six, three on the tree, manual brakes and manual steering we named "Low Tech"
Another was a yellow/white 1966 F250 CC Camper Special named "Old Yellar"
Our old 1961 F350 with a factory Ford dump bed was aptly named "Dumpy"
And now our 1964 F100 CC in called "Tumbleweeds" because it looks like it has been rolling around in the AZ desert for a while.

I have named my 79 F 150 Amie - it just kinda popped into my head.
No name for the 64 yet,
I have to actually see her closer to my vision and then something will just fit.

While I personally don't have a nickname for my truck all my friends call it "It's A Boy!" Because of the color. So in jest I'll sometimes refer to it as that. Mostly I just call it "the ford"

Here ya go:
"My Mother the Truck"
It is a sad state of affairs when you know your life is over and it is only your freshman year in high school, yet that was the position I found myself in during the fall of 1966.
It was Sunday night about 9:30 in the evening and was frantically looking for a "psychedelic" tie to wear with my jeans and white shirt for the pep assembly on Monday. The problem was that I did not have one and I was probably going to be the laughing stock of the freshman class….why did I forget and wait so long that now ALL of the stores were closed. This was 1966 remember.. I had now waited until 10:00 and my mother was calling and telling me it was time to go to bed. I took a big breath and went to talk with her.
Now the one thing that you had to know about my mother was that she was very sharing and would move mountains to help someone UNLESS the predicament they found themselves in was a direct result of not being responsible…then it was another matter. Sure enough when I told her about my situations I endured the next 10-15 yeas (or at least it felt that long) hearing about what I should have done different. The end result was that at around 10:15 I was on my way to bed trying to figure out some way to get sick before morning to avoid going to school. Talk about a restless nights sleep.
Waiting until the last minute I dressed the next morning and went to the kitchen to get something for my last meal. There sitting on the kitchen table was the most beautiful (well really it was very ugly) hand made psychedelic tie with a note. “Next time a little notice would help”. I went off to school and managed to finish junior high with little permanent damage.
Many years later as my mother’s health failed we had more than one laugh about the last minute tie. She never told me where she got material to make that tie at 10:00 at night on Sunday. I told her that I still had that tie and if she was not a little nicer I would be sure to wear the tie to the funeral. She said that she was sure that I would not wear it but just in case if I did, did I remember the 1960’s comedy series called “My mother the Car”.
This was the story of David Crabtree (Jerry Van Dyke) who bought an antique automobile that was the reincarnation of his mother. The car talks to David only and in the voice of his mother.
I told her I did but that would indeed be a lot of work on her part. We just laughed.
I wore the tie for my mothers funeral…talk about people talking behind your back about how tacky I was being…Mom would have gotten a kick out of all the hub bub.
Knowing my mother if there was ever someone who would inhabit my truck it would be my mother. So I have been spending the past several years getting the truck fixed up so she will have an appropriate “place” to live. Her nickname was MIKI and she was born in 1931…that’s the license plate.

Several times I thought I had inspiration for an Uncle Skip-like name for my Merc, but it's name right now would have to be
@#$%^&*()_(*&^%$ because that is all it has ever inspired me to say to it.
If ever a truck fought all the way NOT to be restored it is that one. 12 years and counting.
My Black Uni was an easy one. Jinx. Dean , who bought it from me still calls it that. Ask
him why.

62 was named 'effy' partly because of an big haired 80's actress down this way.
66 is 'big red' -the colour choice sorta gives it away!

The '66 f100 is "Miss Judy" after my favorite cartoon maiden.
The '66 f350 is the "Tonner".
The '67 N600 is "The Two Story Truck".
