What should I do with my 65?

A new truck has entered my life and I am going to bail out on the 65 LWB Slick. Don't worry, it's still an F 100...

I have come across a '70 F 100 LWB Ranger 2WD, and for a truck that is 44 years old, it's as clean as they come. And for the price, I just can't pass it up. I figure I will have more money invested in a stock engine rebuild for the 65 than I am paying for this truck complete. With a few maintenance items out of the way, I will be able to get started on modifications right away without having to wait a few years to complete and investing tens of thousands of dollars. Like I said, I can't pass it up.

Now for the question....what do I do with my 65 that is almost completely torn down? Do I scrap it? Do I sell it for parts? Do I sell it complete as a project?

For starters, aside from surface rust, this truck is basically rust free. I am thinking one of you guys out there who is spending hours and hours (time is money) replacing rusted out panels in your cab and bed, could take this truck off my hands and save yourself all that pain and suffering. Even with a drive to the beautiful northwest, you would still be money ahead. And what's better than a road trip to pick up some good F 100 parts.

Everything is there, minus the passenger door (it was damaged and will need replacing), so I have saved someone alot of work if they want to make this a project. We all know how hard it is to tear apart the front clip on one of these trucks. All parts have been bagged and tagged and in storage boxes, so it is organized chaos.

It's a 65 Custom Cab/Camper Special with the Ranger interior package, and is equipped with a 360 and an automatic.

Here is a picture of the truck before I took it apart.

I said scrap it, but I really couldn't do that, so if I got your blood pressure up, you can relax now.

Let me know what you think I should do with the Slick.

Those Are Both Fine Looking Trucks. I'd Sell The 65' Outright If Possible & Parting It Out Might End Up Taking Some Time. Really Too Bad You Can't Keep Em Both. .............

I am thinking selling it whole is the best idea as well, I just need to find the right buyer. Even if they want to use parts for a project, they would have plenty available. I figured I could bolt the suspension back up and at least make it a roller so it could be transported on a trailer.

Part of the negotiation with my better half to get the new truck was that I would get rid of the 65. She is excited about the idea of having an older truck that we can take to car shows together, but she did not want to see me in another long term project. My shop is not on our property, so I am away for extended periods of time when I go there to work. I could do most of what I want to do to this truck in the garage where she could be involved, making it our toy instead of just mine.

Greetings from Portland! I dig the bumpside. Looks really clean and those are great colors.

As to your slick, there's a lot of us around here if you decide to part it out. Certainly a better deal for everyone involved if you can sell it off on one shot, though.

I'll keep my eyes peeled for your '70 when I'm on the road. Best of luck!

Love the 70. Looks real sharp. I am sure someone will take the 65 as is if in that good of shape. Washington trucks are pretty good fellas, I know, I got one and I would gladly grab another

I think you should keep the 65 and sell me the 70 :D .... my favorite bump grille. The 65 looks good in the pix, better than one of my projects.

The 65 is being parted out. I have sold the seats, center console, core support and inner fenders. The sheet metal is still available as are many other parts. I plan to keep the rear springs for my 70 project, but everything else is available.

When I see what some of you are going through to restore your rusted out cabs, this one would save you a ton of time and money, even if you had to make the trip to Washington to get it. There is body work required on the back of the cab, but the rest is rust free.

The truck is located in Longview, Washington. Come and get it!
