My 66 Lwb F100 has had a lot of the body work done and it primer gray. But the tailgate has no raised lettering and no sing of them ever being there what's a factory 66 tailgate look like? I'm lost on wether to put letters on(paint and or??) or just leave it a solid with the new paint job?

Its a matter of choice. You can only get the correct 64-66 tailgate used as they are not reproduced. They do may the 67-72 gate which is close but has an extra profile encircling the letters. Since they do not exist, what about the script Feord (ford with the cross on the f looking like an extra e) done in paint?

You can buy the tailgate from dennis carpenter reproductions in n. carolina. I have one exactly as original on my 66 f-100 with letters. Use your old hardware added on or buy new from d.c.

My tailgate has the letters. When painting the truck do you mask off the letters or use a very flat roller to get the tops of the letters painted?

I think my buddy that painted the tailgate, masks off the letters and two-tone top white, then painted the tailgate red. Look at my 66 ford ranger pictures and ck the tailgate letters. On first page here and halfway down. Tony
