rear ended by a toyota

Post by slickmainer »

vehicle 1 (GMC truck) , hit vehicle 2 (toyota), which hit my 66. Vehicle 1 didn't have insurance but vehicle 2 did.

Now I have to figure out what color the PO painted the silver, and repair the metal roll pan...or just replace with a real bumper. Fun

there is a hidden hitch behind the license plate so that probably did most of the damage to the hood of the toyota

If you take your truck to a place that sells paint to body shops like a FinishMaster, paint supply store they have cameras that will take a picture of the paint that is on your truck and it will print out a formula that can be mixed to match your paint.

Bummer, A Bumper May Have Absorbed Most Of That Impact...

But the roll pan looks better (IMHO) That should be easily repairable. People with no insurance should be shot on the spot.

That stinks. Make sure that the bed didn't get pushed into the cab anywhere.
At least it doesn't appear to have done any extensive damage.
I see in the pic that the license plate is still shaking from the accident.

I drive my Uni without a rear bumper, and worry about this happening.

Pretty amazed at the little damage on the truck compared to the Toyota.

No fun though. I had paint matched with one of those camera/computer things and got a great match on color.

That is the reason I will never go without a rear bumper and I have been hit many times,I cant believe someone with that new of truck does not have insurance. All my vehicles have coverage in case some idiot does not have insurance.

I can't understand how people get away with driving without insurance. It's a requirement here (and I would assume in all states?). I got dinged when I dropped the insurance on a couple of my antique trucks, because I didn't turn in the plates. But they (DMV) certainly knew my insurance had been dropped.

People don't carry insurance because they don't care! Unless they get caught, they have nothing to lose, and save all kinds of money in the process. If they do get caught, they pay a fine, and maybe lose their license (but will keep driving anyway). The insurance company of the other vehicle or the owner can sue them for the damages, but these types of people have nothing, and you can't get blood from a stone, as they say.

They are scumbags. The just don't care. And they are out there in ever greater numbers.

You're right, they can do a good job of matching. Just need to add the camera part! spectrophotometer

Got the insurance check today from hagerty. I'll have it in the body shop next week. the hidden hitch is just a reese style mount made of square "tubing" welded to the frame. i'll photo after it gets fixed. they are going to just paint the back and stop on the edge then clear the back and sides. if it's close you wont be able to tell without being on two sides at the same time. there is some good amount of flake in the paint so it wont be exact.

Glad to hear it Gregg! Are you satisfied with Hagerty's damage appraisal?
