Has anyone used a towable backhoe? I have some work around here nothing heavy but cannot use a compact tractor. Looking to find out how well they work I no they will not work as well as a standard machine but thought it would beat a shovel. Any information would help.

Wheels check your local rental joints for a " Termite " it is a mini front end loader with a backhoe on the back . I was able to dig a 12 foot by 12 foot by 6 foot deep hole for a new pond a couple years ago with one with very little effort on my part .

The "towables" don't have much reach or power from the ones I've been around. Like others posted I always rent a small hoe or Tractor/backhoe to do my work. The one they have 3 doors up the street (I have a neighborhood rental place) is an Almand brand. Very handy.
The one we have in the neighbor hood is a gas engine but it seems to work fine.

I thought about the Tremite and the rental fee was not bad but I would have to rent it several times, could add up to the price of a used hoe. I also looked the 300.9 cat on line the measurments and weight would work but I am having a hard time beliving the size I have to see one it sounds like the size of a Tonka toy. I really have to see one.

Tonka toy or not, I`d back it against 10 men digging by hand, you just have to dig within it`s limits is all!. I know what I`m talking about I`m a Plumber!!!
