Iceman, or anyone else. Referencing your procedures for replacing ring gear on a flywheel:
Ever replaced the ring gear on a automatic flexplate? Difference seems to be that the ring gear, at least on my 64 HD cruise-o-matic/292, in addition to the procedure of heating to remove/replace, has about 6 spot welds welding the ring gear to the flex plate. I have read where you simply grind the spot welds off and then follow the heat remove/replace method and then re-spot weld.
I have my worn ring gear/flex plate and a new ring gear ready to go. And I'm prepared to give this a try, just a little Leary as, these flexplates/ring gears seems to be hard to find. Also, I've read where folks have used the procedures on flywheels, but really found very little as to doing it on flexplates. Seems the flex plate might be thinner than a flywheel? Anyone have any experience/ words of wisdom before I dive in?
Thanks,
Ken

Re: Icemans Ring Gear replacement on Flywheel
Ken, i have never done a flexplate like that.
i thought the welds held the gear on the flexplate so you may not need as much heat as the manual.

The trick is going to be re-balancing and hopefully you are a very skilled welder. Back in the day (1962) in Germany I watched a True craftsman remove flip and reinstall the ring gear in a Falcon. This worked but I sure would not try it. IMHO!
