A slick i want but not sure!!

Hey guys, a friend of mine I work with told me about a 1965 F100 shortbed slick that in the cell phone pictures didn't look so great... its just a frame, cab and a bed filled with a boat load of parts. Has a early 351W with a C6 behind it and thats all my friend knew about it. The guy was asking 600 for the truck.
So today after work we trucked on over to where this truck was sitting and took a much closer look at it. Turns out the boat load of parts was the whole front clip, and more motor parts! Its not a Twin I Beam, so i guess thats maybe a 64? The cab is in decent shape, the only visible rust i found was in the front cab mounts. Door are in great shape, some dents in the right cab corner. But the shortbed itself is in great shape! Bed floor underneath looked pretty good, just the normal surface rust. Just replace the right rear bed corner, and the holes that were punched in the lower sides of the bed and its a way better bed that i could use for my shortbed build. The engine is a 1971 cast, a fresh engine, never been started. Has .030 over dished flattops that we believe are forged. Has the early cast heads that are worth some big bucks (I think), Edelbrock RPM performer intake. And by looking at the aftermarket converter it may have a decent cam in it? Only bad thing is though, "fresh" is how it was in 1991... The guy who was building it was killed in a car accident and its been sitting ever since. The guy selling it is stuck on 600, without the gurantee of a title... he'll most likely haul it off if he doesn't get that... typical chevy guy. My question is, just from looking at the phone pics i took... Is it worth 600?

I think definitely worth 6 bills for what you're getting.

Trav I paid almost as much for my short uni and it has ALOT more rust than that 64 has .

The crossmember in the bed by the way is from 65 and later not a 64 or earlier slick so it didnt come from that truck if it is a 64 .

The motor, if indeed rebuilt is worth more than that. Run some marvel mystery, or kroil oil in the spark plug holes and over the rocker arms before you hand crank it. all the hard work looks to be done!
Go for it

Here is the most important question: Is the wagon included in with the sale? Would make a great parts hauler at the swap meet lol.

Can I jump in here and be a downer a little bit.
First, what is the level of your skill set?
Do you have a welder and the skill to replace rusted out steps, floor, torque boxes, and on and on.
You haven't even looked at the bed floor yet so there is no telling what that looks like.
Rust repair is expensive, frustrating, difficult, and time consuming.
Personally, I'd spend a few moments of Zen, look at the rust issues really close and think about your decision. You make a lot of money in the long run by paying a little more for a truck with less rust. "Pay a little more now and spend less in the future."
Now, you have my worthless opinion - so go get that truck if you really want it.
And good luck.

I think the truck is worth it, and if the motor turns out to be well preserved and in good condition, then its a great deal! How has the motor been stored, doesnt look like its in the frame? Good luck! And if you have another slick already, you can undoubtedly use the best of both to make one nice one! Prolly sell the worse frame cab and bed as a $500 roller!

Everything that is there is definitely worth $600, if you can use (or sell) what you are getting. Great deal.

A couple comments:

First, how is your state on a truck that may not have a title? That could be a deal breaker in some places. It is for me.

Second, don't plan on getting any "big bucks" out of any 351W heads, those days are long gone. There are now so many aluminum and iron offerings from the aftermarket that simply blow the stock heads away right out of the box, no matter what is done to the stockers, that they are not worth anything unless somebody is desperate to do a perfect restoration. They are basically worth nothing anymore.

That said, it looks solid and if no title doesn't bother you, go for it! Price sounds good enough as a parts vehicle if no title appears.

no title= find a rusted out 64 with a title cheap and put the body on that frame.

Kansas is pretty damn easy to get a title made. I just have to pay a highway patrolman to come out, ask me what id like to title it as and he'll punch some numbers and tell me the title will be in, in X amount of days... hand him 20 bucks and off he goes!
There are A LOT of old school guys in my area that i know would want these heads... Guys that hate Aluminum heads :S
