250 inline six withT5
After doing a ton of reading on the engine and trans, I've just about got my mind set on this. Lots of great support from the falcon, maverick, granada sites. Anyone here done something similar? Searching for "250" on ford related sites is not exactly productive. Also, does anyone living near SW Missouri know of a reputable engine shop in the area?

You're not considering the 250 in a truck are you. Only my personal opinion but they were pretty gutless motors when they were new and don't have much torque.
If you're going with a 6 cylinder in a truck, save yourself a lot of money and do the 240/ 300. Several guys here have done the 5-speed swap and can probably help you out.

From what I can tell, the only thing holding the little sixes back is a crapper of a head/intake. I'm looking to get about 180rwhp and 210 lbft. I'm running a 429/c-6 combo right now. Loads of fun, but I want to drive it everyday, not once a week.

Talk to Alan or one of the guys down under.
I think the little sixes come with a detachable intake in Oz.
Maybe get them to send you a head. I heard they also have trip-deuces available for those motors..... in Oz of course.

OZ head
Yes indeed. I have my eyes on a top end from the land down under that has already been rebuilt to specs that will get me where I want to be power wise(already stateside fortunately). Lord willin' and the creek don't rise, I'll have it in a month or so.

An aluminum 200/250 head is made in the U.S., but the U.S. or Aussie head, intake, carb, exhaust will run you well over 2k, close to 3k.
The bottom line is that has hp goes up, mileage goes down.
A 302/351 with an AOD will cost way less than a 250 T5.
How about detuning the 429 and ditching the C6? That C6 is killing the gas mileage.

oz head
The OZ head, aluminum intake, and 390 holley I'm looking at appear to be a good deal then. I've got 2 complete/running at time of removal 250's($50 for one and $200 for the other). The T5 is the last big piece that I've yet to secure. Heaven knows the odds and ends will kill me, but I feel like I'm on the right track. I was REALLY hoping there would be at least one or two crazy ol' boys on here that might have done or thought of doing this swap.

Re: 250 inline six withT5
Have you looked at the Fordsix website? You will need an adapter for the hydraulic T5 clutch. You will also need to make sure that you get a V8 T5, not a 2.3 version. You will also need the tailshaft off a S10, it moves the shifter forward so it clears the seat.
I still think that at the end of the day you will regret not going the 240/300 or 302 route.

regret? come now...
I've extensively trolled the fordsix and sponser websites. Also been drudging through years worth of maverick, granada, and falcon pages. I've got a spectacular little six book as well. The things you mentioned are just the tip of the iceberg, which I've already run across. I was just hoping someone had some hands on with this - for the very reasons mentioned...
I hate how hard it is to search for "250" engine stuff because all I get is f250 stuff. That is why I have come to you gents. Anything, and I mean Anything relating to this engine in one of our trucks would absolutely rock. Much thanks

Re: 250 inline six withT5
I haven't been on fordsix for awhile, but they seemed to go crazy when one of the members figured out how to put a 300 in a 65 Mustang. My 2 cents, owning a 65 F-100 with three speed, the only thing it has ever left me wanting is an overdrive gear for interstate driving. Btw mine is stock except for an electronic ign upgrade.

Re: 250 inline six withT5
Can't offer any advice, but good luck and keep us posted.
Thinking about it, might check the Hamb/Jalopy Journal site and see if anyone has done a 250 to T-5. I know some of those guys are all about being "Period correct", but not all are. Might also try a street rodder type site?

Re: 250 inline six withT5
Instead of searching for 250, search for 200.
The 144/170/200 has been modded alot more than the 250, especially in the early years before the 250 came out.

Re: 250 inline six withT5
try and check out some of the econoline sites... (old van sites) mine has a 144 and the first one had the 170... I am looking at the 250 for an upgrade in my econo but if you are looking to build one bigger, the van guru's say that you need to build the 200... it is a better block to build on... I frequent http://www.vintage-vans.com/ and go by lectricman on there... hope this might help you out a little...

Re: 250 inline six withT5
That's a sweet site Anthony, thanks. The 200 is quite different from the 250. In addition to less displacement and consequently torque, most 200s don't have the sbf connections(tranny, accessories, etc...). Slowly but surely, the internet is divulging a little more info for my little 250. I never would have thought about the old vans though - thanks again!
