How hard is it to replace windshield rubber?

Post by PoKoMoko »

Is this something I can do myself?

When I was a teenager (millions of years ago), I cracked the windshield in my camaro when I tried to remove it.

What are your thoughts?

I'm doing my front window for the crewcab but I will be calling a glass person to come do it. I watched when my 64 had a new one installed and it is not something I want to try. Not a really hard thing but didn't look like fun. :)

I've popped my '64 windshield in and out a few times. Not really hard, just can be a little nerve-racking. I agree with these guys though- just take it to a glass installer.

When the rubber is old and hard it is often better to just cut it to get the good windshield out. For putting it in with a new molding and the bright trim I always call the glass guy. I think its a young man's game as you have to move around quite a bit :)

I tried for 2 days... a lot of aggravation.. finally paid a glass guy $75 to do it on his own time... took him a little over an hour or so to do it.... Money well spent...

It all depends on the plyability of the rubber, if it soft it is not hard, but if it is old, it is just not worth the problem.

When I bought Jinx, the front windshield rubber was so old and hard that I took it to a glass shop and they chiselled it off. It was worth the hundred bucks to get it done.

I did mine but it was very frustrating. I'm too skint to call a glass guy. That's $75 I can now use towards more truck parts.
