What are those for?

Help my ignorance, please. I am losing sleep at night over this silliness. I was sanding and repainting the metal around the top of the cab, say behind the visors. Right now my headliner is out so I see the holes where the visors go, along with a single screw hole to mount them solidly. Above those open holes for the visors are another set of holes with another screw hole. What are those holes for? Was there a tray made that possibly went from one side of the cab to the other? I beg for help to end all this wondering what this hole is for. Thanks

On a '61 anyway, they held the front of the headliner. For years 62-66 they went to clips to hold the front of the headliner up and it is about 1 inch higher. 61's also had a U-bracket to hold the headliner down the extra inch at the center screw.

OK guys, let me try to explain this better. If you look at a cab with no headliner in it you will see the hole I am referring to. There is the place the visor goes into and mounts. In my case, there is a hole only on the drivers side because it only came with one visor, the passenger side has not been knocked out yet. The hole I am referring to is above or lets say higher than the visor hole. I would say you could fit a golf ball into it. Hope this helps. My unibody has clips along the front to hold the headliner too, all the way across.

wire hole

the wires for the gas tank and dome light travel up the pillar and out these holes

they are on both sides because right hand drive trucks have the wires on that side

Thanks Iceman, I dont know how to put pics on different site and then tranfer them to this site. I am not that good on computers. This is perfect picture of what I am talking about. The lower position can be knocked out for a passenger visor. Its the hole above it that I am referring of course. It looks as though you could put something into that opening and then put screw in small hole to mount it solidly. The headliner clips slide onto the metal sticking out, so that means this hole is visible all the time. The headline wouldnt cover it up. That's why its got me thinking headliner tray possibly. I am still confused about it obviously. Mine didn't have headliner when I bought it so if I seen a headliner installed maybe it would help me too. Thanks again Iceman for the help.

My guess is the holes are for stress relief from the forming process. That looks like an area where a lot of the metal goes during the Stamping process. I have some experence in that trade. Just a thought.

OK, thanks everyone. I see how the headliner goes now. I never would of thought the headline turned like that. It would of been better if they would of followed the natural flow of the 90 degree bend right where the top screw goes into the mirror bracket, but instead it makes that curve and goes up to the clips above the winshield.
