A resting place for Slicks:-( Fords & Mercs

Post by kingranch2006 »

Recently I was told about a gentelman who had a lot of slicks... I finally made contact with him so that I could possibly buy some odd parts. He really was reluctant to let me into his yard but finally agreed as long as I didnt tell anyone where they were.
I got into his yard & here are a few of the pictures of these sad lost slicks

A lot of them he drove in there 30 years ago and trees grew up around them, I believe he is a hoarder as he really didnt want to sell anything off of them. Luckily he has turned his attention to IH trucks and has twice as many of them as the fords rusting quietly away.

Those trucks will someday be removed after the guy dies and hauled off for scrap , the guy has $$$ sitting in his own yard in parts , trucks and scrap metal , but is too stupid to realize he could probably have a nice down payment to buy a new Ford truck. I don't get people like that ????? at some point it has to cross the mind that you will never fix or restore any of those trucks , so what's the point of having them clogging up your property ?

Looks close to the same type yard and 'personality' mindset where Samdog1966 and myself went to a while back, would love nothing more than to drag them up the street to my house but, THEN I'd BE THAT GUY  :cussing:

some words from a slick collector

yes guys die and if they have a wife she deals with the stuff left on the property.i hauled off several trucks that if the owner had not died they would still be there.wife needs money, sells what she can and tries to deal with someone to haul the real scrap away. around here the junk cars have to be hauled a long way to and scrap yard, or to the crusher where he will
let you drop them off.the hauler makes only what he charges to haul them off
the paying scrapyards are another 50 miles drive past the crusher.

everyone does not want a new ford truck, i dont, i am very happy with driving the slicks all the time.
but then i sell parts from the stuff i hauled here, use the $ to keep the running ones in shape and have sent the remains of many off to the crushers too. i have a large keyring of vin tags taken from the "dearly departed"

i also realized, a little while back that i was not going to fix/restore all of them that i kept
a lot of that is economic, cant afford plates/insurance for all those anymore plus $20 for 5 gals of gas.
i have decided 3 is enough trucks to deal with, i sold the dumptruck and maybe the uni and im cleaning out the parts and scrapping stuff. i can keep enough parts to keep the 3 going for lots of years.

but its his property
if he wants to have a thousand trucks there and no one is hassling him about it, why should it be anyones business besides his.
and in this day only 1 idiot has to hurt themselves removing something in the yard and the lawyers come out to play. i dont let people wander my yard hunting parts, if they want to remove large items i drag the truck out to the road so its not on my property.

i see it from both angles really... your right it is his property and his right to do with what he pleases. but i also dont see the point of hoarding and collecting things only to let them rot until you die. why not move on and let what you love live on through someone else if you dont have the means or ability to yourself.

my grandfather is gettin old and tells me stories ive heard 100s of times ( never complain, i just sit and enjoy). he's told me countless times of a 39 ford coupe that was sitting in an old couples chicken coup. this was decades ago, he would stop and talk to them once a year or so and try to buy the car. they were always nice but would insist one day theyd build it. over the years the soft poop/ dirt started to give way and about 6 inches of the car was buried...the last time he stopped by the place was empty. neighbors told him one died and the other moved away... car was hauled off and was so rotten the frame broke in half and there was no floors whatsever in the car, basically the whole bottom was gone.
you can still see how upset he gets tellin that story and how he wished he could have saved/ built that old ford.

thats the stuff i think is flippin stupid! pure stupidity is the only word i have for such crap
(i dont think the trucks pictured are quite on par with a 39 5 window but you get the idea)

Yep, his trucks, his property. But since I'm very opinionated, the guy definitely has a hoarding problem and IMO, is a jackass. Carry on.

Just my opinion but I would rather see those trucks rot away on American soil than scraped and that metal sent to china. Because if it goes to china it either going to be turned into a prius or sold back to us and china makes more money.......

King - am curious, did he sell you any parts?

He may or may not be a hoarder. I know a guy who has an obsessive compulsive type of disorder in collecting certain items. It cost him all his relationships and he's now alone.

While some have commented on this being sad, it could turn out to be a blessing depending on what is done with the trucks after he passes on. On one hand, none of the trucks have been crushed. The more Frod enthusiasts who know of this collection, the better likelihood they can be salvaged one day.

I actually only ended up buying a park light bezel, I wanted to buy some of the merc badging off of the really rusted out merc but he wouldnt sell them to me... He said "You dont have a mercury, leave them there" . I looked at some other items but he wouldnt give me a price or just didnt want to sell the items. One of the pics is of a 59 Golden Jubille IH which is a really sought after truck.....
There were others that I didnt even get pics of aloong with front clips just randomly sitting in a wooded area with nothing else around. 2 mach 1 Mustangs were also sitting in there but he was getting irritated with me taking pictures at that point....
