rust bucket 63 f250 4x4 cab rebuild (bullet)

Post by sgettin »

thought i would try and post up pics of my rebuild since i liked watching everyone elses rebuilds. i have trouble getting multiple pics to load (internet provider is not so good around here). if it doesn't work i'll delete the post.

anyway i did a rattle can restoration because the truck was pretty much shot and i don't have the time, skills, or money for a show quality restoration. and i need a truck so this one is going to get used although she is semi-retired. previous owner namer her bullet (ironic name given she ain't very fast) so i'll stick with that.

wasn't too hard given all the guidence i got here and on fte. took A LOT longer than i thought though, about a year. the rest of the truck should be easier. ended up having to raise the front of the cab about 1 1/2", it had settled through the mounts and was resting on the frame. i think the cab still may be slightly low up front so i'll add a spacer at the cab mounts if i need to. nothing up front is lined up yet i just put 2 or 3 bolts in and started driving it until i get around to adjusting doors, hood, etc.

thanks to the members here and on fte for all the help.

btw if your welding up front around the cab insulation be carefull it catches on fire easily.

truck came from rockford illinois area. it was i believe the city plow truck in hampshire ill. paid $900.00.

i've seen you guys at work on your trucks and have been impressed also, glad you all like what i did with mine. i believe my truck had what you would call a "near death experience". it would be nice to have a decent shop and some equipment but no more body work than i do wouldn't be worth spending the money on. although i have been thinking about an inexpensive metal bender for when i start on the bed.

thanks guys it's been fun and quite the learning experience doubt i bite one off like that again though (currently looking for a 58-60 thunderbird). been driving the truck all over town, jug jug jug jug (engine has an unusual sound to it.) have to admit i'm a little burned out and winter is about here anyway so looks like i'll start on the bed next spring. was going to make the small bottom side panels on my flareside this winter but am thinking i'll post some parts requests for them and see if anyone has some.
anthony, from what i've seen you're not far from done and looks good, get er done and get er driving it's a lot of fun.

Great job, love the flare side long beds. Those larger opening fenders look good on that truck. Some of you guys are really good working with metal, I would not know where to start.

SWEET !!!

Post by bunchoftrucks »

Excellent work sir! I admire not only your skill but you imagination as well. I would ask a favor if you would oblige me. Would you take a few pictures of the way your snow plow mounts are fabricated, both at the front and where it attaches to the frame. I'm working on my 64 F-250 and the way the plow is mounted is just not like what would have come out of a fab shop and I need some reference pictures to go by.

thanks bunchotrucks, just replied to your other post looking for information before i read this one. everything in regards to the plow is off the truck now but i'll take some pictures of the plow etc this weekend (usually dark by the time i get home) and i can also describe how it was mounted.

and thanks slickmainer & mrgoob, nice thing about something that far gone i can't screw it up because it's either me or the crusher :) i like the large opening fenders also. have a couple sets but they're both pretty rough, i would like to find some good ones but i rarely see them for sale and when i do they're kinda spendy. pbly a dumb idea but i've thought about buying some new fenders and converting them over to wide opening fenders useing my beaters as a pattern. pbly just need to weld some tubeing cut in half longways into the opening after i cut it out, or just spend the money and buy some.
