Ford vs. Cheby

Post by BigMike »

I grew up a Cheby guy. I started out wanting a '66 C10 shortbed. But now that I've had my Slick for a year, I really like the Ford trucks better.

I was out riding the Harley in the country today and saw a '66 C10 on the side of the road and checked it out. It would be a $3500 F100 in the same shape. The guy wanted $7600 for it.

I don't understand why people think the Chebys are worth so much more.

I saw a 66 crew on ebay for $100,000....

Asking price does not equal value.... but have fun with your big spoon sir.
So good lookin' that I've attracted an international stalker.

I was looking for a 62 chevy when I found my truck. It had everything I wanted in an old truck, except it was a ford.

I am happy with it though, because chevy didnt make 9 inch rear ends or 300 inline 6's. plus I imagine there is no equivalent on their side of the fence of slick60s

I think some of the draw of the cheby is that you can darn near build a truck from ordered parts and there are so many suppliers the parts are reasonably priced. Our trucks are starting to get more attention and more parts are becoming available.

PS: Added a 68 to the fleet today! Youngest daughter made the mistake of saying she wanted an old truck to drive. Picked up probably the straightest short wide bump side I've seen in a long time.

I too am a Chevy fan. Most importantly I am an old vehicle fan as long as it is American (tongue in cheek). I like the fact that a Chevy is so versatile as far as parts swaps. You can pull a 250 Chevy six popper out and drop a big block in with just new engine mounts and exhaust. A small block Chevy is a small block Chevy. How many bell housing patterns did Ford have between 1960 and 1988? Chevy is just simpler to swap with.

OK, let the flogging commence.

My first car was a '41 chevy. If chevrolet ever makes a car as good as that one, I might consider buying another one... :rotflmao:

To me the whole part swapping argument is a way of saying "I'm lazy and can't spend 10 seconds to figure it out," particularly in this day and age. Dealing with a Ford is really not difficult.

But I could care less about what I own. I have a Chevy (actually a Firebird, but in the 80s, we all know it's a Camaro with a body kit) and it is great. I think most "problems" with a particular brand are self fulfilled. If dad tells you that brand x is terrible every day when you're a kid and you ever get a hold of a brand x vehicle, you subconsciously sabotage it in order to satisfy dad's argument. There is simply no way that a company such as Ford, Chevy, Dodge, etc. will have been around so long if they truly only produce junk.

Very well stated IMO!
There's some combinations which just don't make sense, but, if you don't try cherry pie, how do you know you don't like it?
I own and drive just about any thing that catches my fancy at the time.
I gravitate toward older Fords mainly because that's what I'm most familiar with (when I can remember past 5 seconds ago).
I've owned a LOT of vehicles through the years and the majority have been and are currently FoMoCo products.
I can't think of any I really disliked; except, maybe the Renault Caravelles with the tendency to fold in the middle if you actually prodded them into running!
As far as swaps, I would not hesitate to put a 4BT or similar in a Slick,
and I have long considered a Pinto motor in one of my slicks, just to counter the "only good SVO is a V8" crowd.

But I would pay $8500 or negotiate to $8k for this one. Now you can see why the C10 above is so overpriced.

that is the very first one of those i have ever seen without the box floor rotted right out of it. That alone must make it worth 7600 bux.
I am with pat. I like horseradish and I like ice cream. But horseradish and ice cream is not a good combo.
It's a race.. Will hell freeze over or will JC finish his truck first. Stay tuned..

There is a guy on the modularfords.com website that is putting a 4.6DOHC engine in a 56 Chevy. I bet that will ruffle some feathers.
I would post a link to it but you have to be a member to see his pics. The guy has done a great job putting it in there and it looks right at home sitting in it. He calls it a Fordolet.

I sorry but those C10`s are Dingo`s butt ugly!.

when I first left school, in 1971, I pumped petrol after work to make some extra cash!, the service station ( strange term these days!) I worked at had a 1968 Holden Monaro for sale, all the running gear and all the interior was 1970 GT HO Phase 11 Ford Falcon!, I hope it`s still alive and well somewhere and hope to see it again one day!!

I grew up in a Ford family, but have in the last 4 years owned two Suburbans and a K2500 p/u. I've been very happy with these rigs as I was with my '88 f150 4x4 & '72 mustang. I had even considered finding a '64 c10 to restore as a stablemate to our '64 f100. While there are some nagging design issues that come with both brands, I've found that regular maintenance and upkeep will prevent any vehicle from becoming a pile of junk.
BUT, I'd never consider dropping a Ford engine into a GM or vice versa! :D
