Anything that ntralizes the rust will ruin the paint. You will get runs and stuff that will look horible. Just keep it dry and it will last for many more years like that.
I checked with the "Google" and several companies offer a matte finish clear coat.
But, it's taken 40+ years to get that far how much more is it going to rust over the next few?

Haven't times changed, when I was a kid there was no such thing as patina, there was shiny and beautiful and old and ugly and rust was an evil enemy, you avoided anything with rust and if you had something with rust you battled it with all guns loaded. It's amazing now that the rusted patina look is not only accepted it's prefered in a lot of cases and I am one of those that loves the look. Just found it interesting and I'm sure it's been discussed before but it sure is a viewpoint I thought I'd never see.

I'm a "shiny paint" fan also, but am trying hard to keep my F250 in it's current "natural state". Guess it's not really patina, but more like just faded paint. Plan to have "Slick Shop" door signs made using an antique font and off white color.
