anyone making the original style y block ignition wires with the metal/rubber brackets?

once bought a nos set on evilbay but after 10 Alaska winters they need replacing.

or perhaps someone bought a set for something else that was close to correct length? i have no issues with swapping the brackets onto new wires if needed.

Brian: I see the brackets on e-bay, but don't think they include the wires. Understand getting the wires through the rubber is a real challenge. Haven't bought them yet, but plan to. Let me know if you find the wires and the brackets together.

the brackets come apart and the rubber is split so if its not oil rotted they can be reused. i messed with a set on the dumptruck last year using a couple brackets i had previously salvaged.

thing is not all the brackets sets are the same, some are for cars, some for rams horn and some for 302/332 engines.

the ones i need to replace are on my 66 f250 4x4 and they are the correct ones and fit very nicely.

years ago a friend of mine got a hold of a roll of stainless steel core aircraft wire and we made several sets up. wonder if i could find some of that again and just get the boots from an auto parts source...

I don't think the one's I had on my 292 in my Uni came apart. Someone had cut the wires so only the ends are sticking out. I'll have to check.

they have little tabs on the bolt hole side , you have to bend them back a little then squeeze together on the sides to pop them apart.its a single piece of metal bent all the way around the rubber
i took the rubbers out and cleaned the brackets off and the rubber real good then slipped in the replacement wire and closed them back up.

Very cool, I'll have to take a closer look.

Why not just get a "Universal" wire set?

i still have the "universa"l set i bought before i got the factory set. been in storage for many years because i did not like the lengths after i put them on. that of course was long before i figured out you could take the brackets apart.

the brackets really are needed and do a great job of keeping the wires away from heat and hidden too.

but
the big bonus is that the problem was not in the wires but corrosion in the #1 port of the cap. found another cap, cleaned off the wire end and goodbye miss.

so gives me plenty of time to hunt for wires.

What Brian said, plus they are "correct" for the engines.

Pertronix cut to length 7mm wires will work great.

Dennis carpenter has the origional wires and the brackets and rubbers, just got a set of the clamps and rubbers for my 292, Went and got accel 8mm pro comp wires from car quest was cheaper than getting the precut oem wires, spray some silicone spray on wire and in boot and it slides right on the wire after you cut it :D
