4.6/5.4 conversion
4.6/5.4 conversion
Has anyone done the 4.6 or 5.4 conversion in their slick yet? If so how is it working out? Whats your MPG's like?

I don't think that anybody makes a conversion kit for these trucks. It is mostly fabrication work to get mounts and everything else installed. The detail Zone makes a wiring harness for that engine. The factory harness can be modified but it is a lot of work to diet the harness.64 Thunderbolt wrote:Where can I find out what all it takes to do this conversion? This is pretty interesting because I might have a doner T-bird to do this!
I am putting a 4.6DOHC in my truck. I can't wait to get it further along. I have the wiring harness done, motor mounts made and working on the air intake now.
The late model T-Birds have independent Rear suspension.

Another place to get a EFI wiring harnes for those engines. Not cheap but complete.

To "chip" the computer I recomend the Quarterhorse. http://www.moates.net/quarterhorse-for-fords-p-199.html
Use the Binary Editor software it is a little more expensive but worth the extra. http://www.eecanalyzer.net/

First off, welcome to the site. Where in Louisiana are you? Not too many of us here. Be sure to introduce yourself and post some pics of your truck.
I plan to put a DOHC 4.6 or 5.4 engine in my 63 F100 Crew Cab. You can a low mileage DOHC Mark VIII engine for about $1,000 a low mileage Lincoln Aviator engine for about $2,000 and a low mileage DOHC 5.4 from a Navigator for about $2,800, depending on how much horsepower/torque you want/need. I'm also putting an 06 Crown Victoria aluminum front cross member under it, which will give me power rack and pinion steering, large disc brakes, plus the modular engines are a direct bolt in (the mounting is a part of the cross member).

I live in Raceland but am originally from New Orleans. This past week i had a excoworker whom works for a independent mechanic shop GIVE me a Lincoln Aviator 4.6 DOHC that only has 70,000 miles on it. The only thing wrong with it is that it needs timing chain guides. But it missing everything from the intake up so it should be fun trying to find those parts. I was able to find a continental that has a front wheel drive 4.6 dohc in it but am curious to know if the intake and that stuff will work for my Aviator engine. Plus will the PCM work for what i am doing?
Does anyone have any wiring diagrams for these engines so I can begin to work on that?
I'll post some pics of my 4 trucks soon. Thanks for your help guys.

Didn't know you had it until it was long gone.

Aviator
The 1998 and earlier Lincoln intake will not work, it is a 16 port split intake to match the split port heads. Supposedly the 1999 up Lincoln Continentals have the later heads but I have never seen one. Besides an aviator intake a 1999-2001 Cobra or 2003-2004 Mach I or Mercury Marauder intake will work. Sullivan Perfomance offers a single four barrel carburetor intake that will work.Voodoo66 wrote:I live in Raceland but am originally from New Orleans. 4.6/5.4 conversion
I've done the conversion on my '66. I am averaging about 22 MPG.I've put about 3000 miles on it now.Mine is from a bone stock '04 crown vic.Thought I would be dissappointed in the power after having a 428SCJ 6PACK,but I am completely satisfied!

2 valve
The Edelbrock intake is for two valve SOHC heads, the Avaitor has four valve DOHC haeds. He needs the Sullivan intake.turtle1056 wrote:for the guy with no top end o nthe aviator motor
skip all the nuisance stuff and put an edelbrock carb intake on it, and then run the ignition with a $400 box from the aftermarket.
