64-66 bed

Post by dotcentral »

What is the approximate value of a 64-66 styleside long bed these days? Bed only, not the truck. Something in decent shape, minimal damage.

I realize may be a hard question to answer, but feedback would be appreciated.

I have a damned nice one with the correct tailgate on it. The gate is streight and there is not one ding in the floor. The only rust is the flat area right behind the wheel well of the floor and that is an easy fix. With the stainless and tail lights and all when I'm ready to pull it I will start at $800 and see what happens from there, I also do a lot of horse trading on parts. Beds are plentyful, good ones are kinda scarce and mine ain't perfect but it is better than most. Tom

Not quite ready to give up on mine yet, just wanting an idea how much they go for.

FYI, if someone was wanting to buy yours, they have no idea where you are to try and figure how to go about getting it, since you don't have your location listed.

One member here thought $350 was too much for a fairly decent '66 long wide bed.

Of course, transportation and freight have to come into play also.

I can say for a certainty that there is a figure and number of miles that I'll drive that far outweigh doing the amount of body work I fear I am about to embark upon. If I could get a bed that required little plastic and "no welding" I'd invest a few hundred in the entire venture (maybe more).

Maybe. Have to see the pictures first.

Anybody? Bueller?[/u]

Definitely.

I am doing bodywork on my truck using a community college weekend program. I am almost finished with the cab, and last major hurdle is the bed. My current bed has rust through in the bed floors and front wall, and bed sides are full of dents. It is repairable, but will take time and effort. The instructor has said several times I'd be done faster and cheaper (figuring in tuition, materials) to find a better bed. He's probably right. But I can't afford to overpay. And a great deal on the otherside of the country doesn't help due to shipping.

I called him a month or so ago. Didn't have any in and didn't have any idea when he'd be getting any. Beds seem to be getting more and more scarce. His advice the day I called was to start looking for trucks for sale, that i was likely to find something quicker that way.

I recently tried to sell 2 different beds. 1st one was rust free and outside panels super nice but bed floor was pretty dented up. Sold price? ZERO it went to the crusher.

2nd bed was cherry, no rust or damage and bed floor was pretty much perfect! Front box panel was perfect too, With a cherry tailgate I could not get 250.00 for complete bed. It simply was not worth my time for any less than that to remove it from frame.

House was sold and moving out so it went bye bye too. A shame really but could not take it with me. It was easier to have it hauled off for scrap. Pretty nice cab too!

A pic of last cherry box and tailgate. 250.00 for complete box as in pic?
Reason was shipping was too much if box was free!

should have taken a video of it being crushed and put it on youtube!

That's life I guess. Not much we can do about these sorts of things. I'll have to keep an eye out in my area for something and if one doesn't turn up soon work with what I have.

Hey BYR how goes the house hunt. I saw those boxes BYR had I would have bought them but did not have a need for that type of styleside box.

Tim - I had about $450 in parts on mine and worked on it nights and weekends for over a month to get it nice. I also found one in California for $900 without gate and checked into shipping, $700. Figured I could do a lot of welding and grinding for $1600. BTW, mine is a shortbed.

Best of luck, whichever way you go.

I looked at the bed again this morning and will try to fix what I have. Unless I run across some unbelieveable deal close to home this is probably the cheapest way to go.

I have most of the patches I need (I think). Might get it media blasted first to make sure there isn't more damage than I think. Thanks for the input guys.
