78-79 Transfer case.

Hello All,
I had a friend ask me this today. Is the transfer case on a 78-79 Ford F150 or Bronco a divorced transfer case? I guess the question is will the transfer case work with any transmission?

A divorced transfer case will work with any transmission that is not a "married" tranny. Considerations for drivetrain and driveline length need to be taken into account as well as mounting provisions.

Nope, it's a married unit. Either a 203 or 205 if I remember right. It will bolt to any married 4x4 tranny as ford used the same spline count and pattern even up 'till today.

The divorced transfer cases were in F250's & larger ('77 & earlier, if I recall). F150's & Broncos all had married transfer cases.

the 66 f100 4x4 also has a married case, its only a single speed ,no 4low.are you saying its the same spline as the later ones too?
