Post by stoney1964 »

Was there such a thing as a round back glass ford pickup? 1964 I was told they only made 250 of them?

In 18 or so years of fooling with these trucks - never heard of such a thing.
There are 2 members who have swapped a Big Back Window from a 61-63 Uni into a 64 if that's what you mean - not original from Ford though.
Aside from the BBW Uni's all Slicks had the same back window.

Thanks GregD I am with you on this. I just had a strange incident happen today. While towing my 63 unibody on the car hauler a guy pulls up beside us at about 65 mph and flashes his phone number on a piece of cardboard, so I call it and talk to him. He tells me he has a 64 for sale with round back glass and says only 250 of them were made. Strange! He said his father in law bought it new and he wants 2000 for it. Beats me. I guess I should call him back and talk some more just out of curiousity. What about mercury built? I dont know much about them?

Well, it doesn't matter what silly info he has - if the truck is worth the scratch grab it.
I hear all sorts of stories from people about all sorts of crap that was never built. I just smile, nod, and let it be. If they are convinced no amount of proof will change their mind.
I have seen at least 3 Mustang IIs that were "very rare, less than 100 built factory 4 cylinder or 2bbl V8 (only so it was street legal) race cars", lol. Some of the pure insane garbage I have been told by people over the years about "rare cars" they think they have would make you pound your head on concrete just to end the pain.

First, was it a Uni?
If so, it "could" have been a 1963 end of year or end of production and titled as a'64.
If it was a style side bed, its bogus.
I have a buddy in Beaumont that bought a Mustang 390 GT coupe in 1968 from Kinsel Ford (it was really a '67 because it did NOT have the side marker lamps) and it was titled as a '68.
The car was identical to my GT fastback which was bought as an end of the year closeout.
He still has his.

I deal a lot with old Kawasaki motorcycles. It's amazing what people "know" about them. I can give them all of the proof about a certain thing, but they "know" that what they say is fact. What I really like is when someone has a $500 bike, but they "know" it's worth $2500 because it is so rare...so rare I've owned 6 or 7 of them and junked 3 others.
