Slick 60's

Not even sure I spelled modernization right.

What have you done to your rig to bring it a little more up to date?

Anything at all that you've done, like:

Disc Brakes
Sway Bar
Intermittent Wipers
A/C
more lights in interior
electric fuel pump
solid state ignition
etc etc

My 62 unibody has power disc brakes, power steering, tilt column, an alternator instead of a generator, a CD player and an automatic transmission so far.
A/C from Classic Auto Air is the next thing on the list, then maybe power windows after that.

Not sure if it counts, but all the Crown Vic amenities.

Working on a SEFI engine/AOD swap. I got the engine/trans in and now working on the wiring.
I'm going to convert from SD to MAF so, I have some more parts to buy.
I'm just getting started but, I have disc brakes and maybe power assist as well. I'd like power steering and A/C is a must too but, one thing at a time eh?

only thing i have done to my 66 4x4 that is in that category would be
dual master cylinder
headlight relays
those are the only ones i am likely to do on any of the trucks i have.
i put them back together the way they came new, with new parts.
what do you call putting a y block in a 66 ? demodernization?LOL
i of course have done some cosmetic things, cargo light, led taillights,bucket seats, cab marker lights, 100 watt hellas and strobe lightbar.

I've decided I quite like all the little quirks on my truck. It's 100% stock as far as I can tell, (well, except an early 80s stereo that doesnt work) and everytime I have to turn the wipers off at just the right time so that they dont stop in the center of the windshield, i get a grin.

That doesnt mean I can't appreciate a few modernizations that people do however. I'll probably make a few myself later on.

A modern radio with CD is the only thing I have done so far to my 66.

So far Ive upgraded to,
Dual master cylinder
Alternator
Headlight relays
Front and rear swaybars

I plan on also installing,
Disc brakes on front axle
Power brake booster
Diesel engine
Overdrive manual trans
A/C

I did a manual disc brake swap on mine, way back when.
That's it so far.

mild 460 and C6 with assorted performance goodies

almost forgot

favorite accessory is by far the little purple lights in the corners

1977 chassis swap that gave me 4x4, power stearing, power disc brakes, right off the bat. Then i installed Classic auto air, AM FM CD player, speakers behind the seat, power windows, back up lites, spray in bed liner, Duraspark II, and line lock. Future plans are power door locks ( have the kit just havent done it yet ) and SEFI.

it needs a bed floor badly as soon as i get the thing running reliably i am going to start the bodywork, and clean it up.

the wiring is a mess, the engine i just replaced looks like it was built by someone that didn't believe in gaskets and used gobs and gobs of rtv instead.

the tranny was burnt up and i replaced that when i replaced the engine.

it was all rednecked together and i am in the process of fixing the previous owners shoddy work.

I have updated the radiator as well as the lines to the tranny. Cd player and a 1978 thunderbird split bench seat. Going to put disc brakes and power stearing this summer.

i went to menards, got some black auto carpet and replaced the old rubber mat that was in there, alpine stereo, rebuilt the engine, master cylinder, new brake pads, seat cover, new rims, i have yet to put on,
still need the tires, never ending healthy hobby!!!

shoulder belts
dual chamber master cylinder
disk brakes up front
electric (as opposed to hydraulic) brake light sender

All of the above for safety.

Also had the radio retrofitted internally for AM/FM/AUX RCA. That was just for grins, as the old radio was not working and I wanted stock look, but FM and MP3 capabilities.

Cruise control as well. Just cause I wanted it.

Paper air filter (99% effcient as opposed to 95% efficient from oil bath, according to tests).

You know what would top all of these modernized things? Getting a new Ford fullsized truck and just using the whole chassis and running gear and wiring, lighting, etc but just put our bodies on the chassis to fit. It would be a nice reliable and like new truck but have the old truck look. Someone up for the challenge? I sure am not. :p

To be honest I wouldnt want it. Part of the beauty of these old trucks is that I personally can work on them. You can actually stick your hand down in the engine compartment and have room to turn a wrench. Modern vehicles you can't even fit your pinky in there anywhere. Tune up requires pulling the engine, etc.

I love the simplicity of these trucks, which is the way I want em. Any modern upgrades to me would be as simple as possible and true to the theme.

Oh yeah and since I've had my '62, my stepfathers 1 year old $45,000 Dodge got stranded up in the mountains, needing a $700 tow job that the warrenty wouldnt cover, and was in the shop for over a week. The entire time I happily drove past his house every single day in my lil' ole 62 Ford Inline 6 So much for new trucks reliability
