5x4.5 axles

now that i got my cv front ive been looking to swap my rear down to a 5x4.5 bolt pattern but so far ive not seen anyone that makes those axles should i just take them and have them redrilled?Also is there anyway i could swap my axel to a big bearing without swapping out the whole axel housing so i can get the disc brake kit a whole lot cheaper than the earlier style

on converting to big bearing you would have to cut ends off existing housing and replace with new big bearing ends and as for axles strange engineering makes custom axles. web site is

I have had my axles redrilled before. Usually costs about $100 by the time I get new bearings and lugs.
But I have also swapped axles with axles from Ford cars to get the 4 1/2" bolt pattern. To do this, you will need 2 driver's side axles from a 77-79 T-bird, 72-79 Cougar, Gran Torino, Ranchero, or LTD II. There was a major write-up about this on FTE. Or contact me for what little info is needed.

Don't do what I did, and give the machine shop the wrong bolt pattern to redrill.

suddenly you will have $500 worth of axles on the back of your truck.

I couldn't find the axles the truckfarmer says in the local yards, and if I could have, they weren't wild about selling me just one of the pair.

I would be reluctant to go to a weaker bolt pattern. But then again, that's just me........................
