The 4x4's have ALOT of unique parts!

I've got a 63 F250 4x4 with a 292 4 speed, and a rust free 2 wheel drive 292 4 speed donor truck that I'm using for body parts....so far, I've noted the following differences:

1. battery located in the floor of a 4x4 vs. under the hood on a 2wd truck

2. the right side inner fender has a completely different form, see below....4x4 on the left, 2wd on the right (with primer spots)

3. the frame is completely different

4. the front valance/splash pan is different....The 4x4 is turquois, 2wd is white:

5. The radiator support is mounted on risers on the 4x4

6. The 4x4 cab mounts are square and 2wd mounts are round

anything else?

finding the unique 4x4 parts is extremely difficult due to limited production numbers....and most of the 4x4's parts and parts trucks that I've found are in worse shape than mine....

The 4x4 frame that was first designed for use in the 1959 Fords was in continuous use through the whole run of slicks, so:

-the wheelbase is 121" on most of them, different from the 128" and 129" of the 64-66 long boxes with the exception of the 66 4x4 F100
-The differences in the valence you have and the raised rad support do NOT apply to the F100's
-The steering column is unique. Not a big truck or a small truck one.
-The bed does not match the truck, again exception for the 66 f100 4x4
-The steering wheel is from a big truck

oh yeah, I forgot about the column and wheel!!!!

that column is LONG and the wheel is HUGE!!!!

I did note the closeness of the rear tires to the front of the wheel opening on the bed

As long as it is 61-64 2 wheel drive & 4x4 trucks in those years the cab & core support will all interchange front fenders are different or use the 61-66 F-350 to F-750 and up cabs will also interchange as well as the core supports will also as long as rounded inner fenders are there can be used....

the fenders, cabs, and core supports are all exactly the same on my 63 2wd and 4x4 F250's, only the right inner fender and front valance are different....

I havent decided yet if I want to cut a hole in the donor truck cab floor, or just use the 2wd inner fender and battery tray on the 4x4, and move it up to the firewall....any problems in doing this? I'm normally a stickler for keeping things original, but the battery under the floor is not the most convenient location....

Many of the steering parts for 4x4s, with the exception of the 66 F100 4x4, are the same parts for F350s. This includes the steering wheel, column, steering gear box and drag link. Exact same parts. The battery is in the floor to keep it cool when using a PTO off the transfer case. As the other guys mentioned, things like rad supports, cab supports and the like are available through salvaged F350s and up.

1.the wb is 120 0n all the f250 4x4s
2,the same column is used in the f350 and f500 61-66
3.the bed can be swapped with a 61-64 lwb stepside bed.
4.same as 2.
5.inner fenders same as f350 and 500, 61-66
6. outer fenders used on 4x4 and f350 and f250 2wd with 17.5or 19.5 wheels
7.parking (driveshaft) brake same as f350,500 61-66
8.frame is same as f350 and f500, just a shortened version missing the tc mounting crossmember.
9.core support has springs on the bolts, same as f350,500

how many differences are there on the outer fenders? I heard there were only 2 types of outers, standard wheel opening and large wheel opening....

BUT....

the outers on my 4x4 F250 have the same wheel opening as my 2wd F250 with 16.5" wheels, and do not have the oversize opening type that the bigger trucks had....

The ebay truck has the big openings..
there are also the big truck fenders. when used with a flareside box on a 4x4 they are kind kewl..

That application would look even better if the box were widened out to match the flared front fenders.
