Lenore`s playing up!

Post by Alan Mclennan »

Before I get the hammer out, can you tell me whats going wrong?
What we`ve got, 351 Cleveland with MSD 6AL ignition box, MSD Blaster 2 coil, MSD Billet dizzy, full time LPG gas twin throttle bodies.
She starts up as per usual,( no choke ) so keep rev`s up for a few minutes and when I let the rev`s back to idle she dies and won`t start up again!. plenty of gas available. This started last Monday arvo, went to garage this morning, did the same thing.
A few weeks ago while out driving I noticed the tacho needle bounce a couple of times without the rev`s changing, and she died at a set of lights but started right up again, any idea`s guy`s?. Thanks in advance........Alan,

Hmm, sounds like an electrical issue to me but I'm no trouble shooter...that's what my brother's for...he loves trouble shooting..and I hate it.

so once it gets hot it will not stay running? Is everything that should stay cool routed away from the engine? Is a propane system setup with any kind of safe guards that would cause it to cut out for any reason?

I'm not much help with answers, but great with questions, lol.
All my tools are hammers except screwdrivers, those are chisels.

It turns out to be the dizzy, faulty sensor by the look of it!, that's after putting a new ignition box in and it still did the same thing :( . MSD themselves didn't come back to me with any help " stupid Aussie! " :P , anyhow she`s running the Bosch dizzy out of Beryl for the time being, now I can cruise with confidence :D

Well thank goodness you did not use the hammer on Lenore. Good to hear you isolated the issue and are able to cruise again.

Alan my first guess would have been coil. Windings have a small breaks that always act up after heating up.

Brian, that is where I started, tried 3 coils same results. I had it dyno tuned last week while it wasn't playing up, not a problem, till the last run, dead as a maggot!, that's when the box was changed, started up fine ran for 15 min then died in the bum again!, checked spark from coil with dizzy connected no spark, tried with dizzy disconnected and looped the feed wires (purple and green ) and we have spark!, son of a yak herder! found you!

Aaron, don`t get me wrong, I will be putting the old ignition box in Beryl, just going to use the Bosch dizzy, just for the economic`s of it.
