Looking at my 66 short step after looking at this mod.
So has anyone with a short step tried the mod?
What issues did you run into and what were they?
Looking under mine I can see some possible issues.
Thanks Gary

fuel tank
grw i'm going with a 49-51 car tank from tanks inc. pn 51p i'll just have to cut a hole in the left side of rear frame for the hose than on to the side of the fender i'l be looking for a side mount door of a later model truck to fit on it i don't want the filler in the bed
grw,
I have a mustang tank. I can't help with the short/ step side stuff but there is one big advantage to that tank that I never thought of until just latley.. The sender can be removed without droping the tank.. My gauge was not working. The issue was the float was no good. It was an easy repair...

I did the bronco II tank mod to mine and did not have any issues
(of course i did not have a floor in my bed at the time or a spare tire
mount
)
and it installs basically the same as the mustang but with a side filler
that goes right over the frame rail under the bed.
The only issue i could see is having the neck come up under
a bed strip. Drilling out the rivets on the rear cross member to move it
might be an issue too. I recommend removing the bed or the wood
to get good access.
hope this helps
