Well, I have finally started working on the truck. I have been a member of the group for a while now, I read almost every post, and have asked some questions of my own. I appreciate everyone's participation in everyone's projects. It is my motivation to get out, and finally get some work done.
The truck was my grandfather's (Jack) truck when I was growing up, and more recently was my Uncle Ricks truck. My dad put the ole '65 on a trailer and hauled out all the way out to Reno, NV where I have now lived for 5 yrs. He brought it out the week after my first born son Dane had arrived. I have finally got the front clip off of the truck, got the rusted through bed floor cut out and off of the frame. And I just got the differential pulled to have rebuilt with new bearing, seals and gaskets. I am also getting ready to prep the frame for restore. I am using Eastwoods Frame Restore Kit, and the suspension and differential is getting a dark gray and light gray paint. I also plan on a slight drop in the suspension, and a black and red two tone paint job. Anyway that is the basics behind my build, any suggestions, comments, and help is always appreciated...

Looks pretty straight & solid in these photos. Good luck with it.

Going to stay with drums, or go with discs and a dual MC?

It is a really straight truck, but not all that solid...the bed floor is rusted through in several places, mainly the front panel and floor. The cab would suit the Flintstones if you know what I mean. Of I believe I have some pics of the inside of the cab in my profile. But I have seen much worse! I am trying to locate a set of spindles to do a Manual Disc swap. I am getting ready to order all new brake lines, and MC as well. But I'm not going to start running all those lines until I get the front disc parts I need.

Looks like a better start than what I had Phil. Just make it a relaxing experience and enjoy every knuckle busting moment.

I went with manual discs on mine, and got the parts off a base model F150 for my 66, and a base F100 for my 71.

Just spent the last 4 hours wire brush and wire wheeling the back part of the frame. Hopefully I will have it ready for paint tomorrow night! But my arms and hands sure do hurt! I should have just blasted it!

Just got the rust converter brushed on...we will see how well it works. If I would have known about the Blue Lightning product before 10 minutes ago, I may have done that first...lol
The product goes on pink and turns a dark blue, and black color as it is working to convert the rust

Lookin' good Phil. I used Chassis coat on my frame. Are you just going to paint it after the rust converter? Keep on it and keep up the good work...... Anthony

I am going to use a ceramic chassis paint. I bought the chassis restore kit from Eastwood. We will see how it turns out. I'm gonna paint the frame in 2 parts...mainly because I don't have anywhere to sit the cab off the frame. Small garage and yard so I can't store it off of the truck anywhere. Thanks for the words of encouragement!

I am happy to see that you got your Grandfather's truck. Enjoy every minute working on it. It will be good memories forever.
I got back my dad's truck back about 6 years after he sold it. I am putting this one in the will so that the kid's can never sell it.

I just did part of my frame with rustoleum rusty metal primer. I'll give it a few days and go over it with satin black. Pain in the butt so far.

Another update...top coat of chassis gloss black is on...
I'm waiting for the differential to come back from getting new bearings and seals, and then I will get that painted and back under the truck...linking pictures from photobucket are coming out way too small so here is the link to check out the newest...

So I'm running into a problem...
The only spring shop in town wants $180 bucks to press out and press in my new leaf spring bushings!@#$!@#
I guess you can charge that when you are the only one in town...
Does anyone have any ideas on getting out the old bushing sleeves that are completely rusted in place?
I have used a hack saw and cut the bushing hoping to get it to collapse inward after hitting it with a chisel a couple hundred times, but it's a no go...

I took mine to napa they have a press. Normally charge me $20 for what ever it is i need pressed. g

I called my local NAPA and O'Reilly and they don't have a press

I'm gonna keep calling around, maybe I can get a brake shop to do it...

My advice take the $180 and go buy a press that way you will have one for the next time. Might take a look at a swap meet get a good used one.

Go to Harbor Freight and buy a balljoint press for about $30.00 You can use it to change the U joints in your drive line too. I've about worn mine out doing all sorts of small press work with it.

Hey Phil, Awesome truck! I can guarantee from my personal experience that you will love the Black & Red combo, no matter how you lay it on. Good luck.
