crown vic frame swap question

Post by 61ford »

well im looking at now doing a crown vic frame swap after i messed up the subframe i was trying to install.from what i read its the same wheelbase as a short uni so i would be good there.is there any cutting or modifying or is it basically take my frame mounts off my factory frame and bolt them onto the crown vic frame.i sent bit an email to get a little more info about how he done his also

I don't know the details but it's going to be alot of work to put the truck body on a car frame.

that might be really tough i have never measured but i have worked on a few vics and i know they have a "perimiter frame" the frame comes out from the subframe and gets real wide under the pass compartment then narrows down back before the rear end. anything is possible , heck it might be an 'easy' swap but then again it might not.
No, its not a windsor or a cleveland, its a three fifty TWO!

theres some pictures i found none as good as i would like doesnt look too bad ill end up redoing my bed i raised it some but it gonna need to be raised a little more as rear suspension sticks up thru there and looks like you have to notch the stepwell as where the frame kicks out goes thru there only real question i have now after finding those pics is how you would mount the cab mounts.check these pics out i found

Lance did this swap on his Short Uni. Darrell & Matt are both intimately familiar with his truck. Darrell had his 64 chop top on a crown vic frame before he went back to the stock one. That frame is going under Matt's Smudge (long story but it's a Slick). I am sure one of them will chime in soon and help you out. It's a killer swap though, If I had a short Uni it's what I would be doing.

ive done located an 89 dude said he would sell just the chassis for 200.00 had a 5.0 ho in it. if i do decide to go that route and im bout 100 percent sure im going to try to use the cv tank and change the filler neck to run in the bed instead of the bedside. might even use the factory column but i dont want that key switch in the column. looks like the trans will sit up in the body so ill prolly have a friend who is a good metal fabricator make me a tunnel and drop a t-5 in it and make a center console for all my ac stuff then put some 60s mustang buckets like the f100 rangers did

That doesn't sound bad if you already have the engine. You should be able to find a pretty nice running/driving car for not alot more though. Can buy a pretty nice one around here for around $1500 - $2000, if it needs body work but runs good they go in the $400 - $500 range.
