Slick 60's

I see a radio hole, and an antenna hole, but i dont see a speaker hole in the dash. Do you have a radio that goes there? Im confused

The speaker is contained within the radio. I have seen speakers in the dash before; I had just assumed that Ford began locating them there begining in '65. I'm sure there is someone out there that has the correct data on this. I'm learning a lot about these trucks since I began going through this one. This web site has been a good resource!

Thanks for the info, guys (and gal). The radio has a chrome plate that goes around it that I didn't get into the pictures. I hadn't considered that the radio could have been a dealer installed option.

I have been slowly picking at the truck when I have had time. I got the shift lever, tailgate hinges and heater box cover painted. My son and I also replaced the driver side door handle shaft. My grandpa had drilled holes through the handles and the stripped out shafts and ran screws through them. It worked, but looked kind of tacky.

Hopefully we will have a few hours this weekend to make some more progress!

Ford bought Philco in 1961, not Motorola.

Well, it had to happen sooner or later. The project has really been going very smoothly until tonight. I was going to place the gearshift lever back into the transmission for the time being. The gearshift action has always been sloppy and I noticed the pin that rides in the slot of the lever sitting funny in the hole, so I reached to get it and knocked it into the transmission. I looked for it with a flashlight for a while but couldn't see it. I had hopes that it might come out with the oil if I drained it, but no luck. Oh well, I needed to change the oil anyway!
I removed the access cover which my grandpa had obviously removed at one time since I found his calling card; a mismatched bolt and oddball nut in the worst possible location. Removing the shift linkage gave me an additional project, erasing my hopes that I might get the door latch back on and adjusted tonight; dirt I did not see between the bellhousing and shift linkage fell right into the transmission Thankfully, the T-98 has a PTO cover on the side at the bottom and I was able to remove that to help flush out the dirt. On a bright note, I got the heater core box cover back on with little drama. I suppose I'll add gaskets to my parts list when I go to town tomorrow.

We gt a little further along this weekend than I thought after the "dirt in the transmission incident." I was able to get the driver door latch installed and adjusted. I'm not sure if I'm completely satisfied with it; the gap is kinda close right where the outside door handle is while the rest of the gaps are fairly even. Along with a few other nickel-dime things in the cab, I got the radio back into the dash; but I'm waiting to install the antenna on the cowl until it goes back to the body shop for some follow-up work. My youngest helped me clean up the tailgate latches today while the rest of the family went to town. What a great little helper! He sat on the driveway for nearly an hour wire-brushing that latch. I didn't have more than five minutes of clean up work to do on it before it was ready. We had a lot of white paint and grime to clean off all of the tailgate hardware. Hopefully the new tailgate handle and mounting plate will be here soon so that we can install the tailgate!

did he have any close encounters with his fingers or toes with that wire brush? mine is 6 and hasn't really helped out yet, but tells me Im going a great job. I think he just wants it in 10 years.

He figured out they were stiffer than his hairbrush but nothing serious. Heis twiggs are bend toward the mechanical end AND he has the ability to concentrate (when he is not tired). That was his first garage assignment and I'll be sure to find something for him when I get out there Sunday afternoon.

We got the tailgate assembled and installed this weekend. I have the shift cane and top case to the transmission at a machine shop close to my office and hope to receive them by the end of this week. It will be nice to shift without horizontal play in the cane!

Man what a nice truck. I hope you folks out west realize just how lucky you are to start with such solid bodies. Heck most vehicles 10 years old or newer around here have more rust then that truck has after 46 years!!

Thanks! I am VERY thankfull after seeing what some of you folks started with! There are some very skillfull people on this website that can turn rust into gold.

I got my topcase and shift cane back from the machine shop. They charged me less than half their initial estimate and the shifter is nice and tight. I have to take the truck to town Wednesday for the bodyshop to finish their work so I'm anxious to shift gears without using "the technique."

I'm hoping somone out there might be able to tell me where I can find this plug in the cab floor under the drivers side. I haven't seen a replacement in any of my catalogues. If I can't find one, I suppose I could try to repair it with silicone.

Those plugs are fairly common on older vehicles, if you've got a salvage yard nearby they should be easy to find. What size is it, I've got several around here in the shop.
