Yes your new accel wires will be adequate. I have not used a Pro-Comp dizzie yet
but the parts I have bought I am pleased with. Anyone who buys an aftermarket part
of any kind and just bolts it in without checking it first IMO is asking for trouble
In an ideal world they should work out of the box-after all you pay good money for them-
but in reality after 39 years in working on hotrods it's just not the case. So whatever
dizzie you buy ,have it checked on a distributor machine.

i dunno dude. $50 for such an intricate part sounds too good to be true... And hearing what the guys at 460 Ford say, I'd steer the hell away from it. Your comments about not running above 4000 rpm sound like a LAME excuse justifying the pretty chrome and red POS to jam in your hole. The bit about the bad pin causing oil pump to quit turning and pressure to go away sounds a wee bit concerning too.

Get a Pertronix. You wont Regret that one. PROMISE.

It adds a total of ONE short wire to the coil. Dead nuts reliable. Simple. Can put points back in (if it DID come down to it) in 5 minutes.

I Think it was about $50 for the Original "Ignitor" module when I got mine. I cant find it right now though, may be more.

Main benefit of Ignitor II (upgraded model) that I am aware of is that it will not cook itself if you leave ignition on while not running. BUt what's the chances you're going to do that? I thought it didnt really justify the extra cost.

I've been running the thing for 3 years with ZERO trouble.
'63 with 390 & lots of juice. But never enough. Always want more.

I used a pro comp dizzy on my Bronco. The engine I used it on came from a 91 Tbird, I converted it to a carb for a number of reasons. I used the pro comp dizzy because I had it. It was a left over from another project. It's been in there for about a year. The engine never has run quite right. Seems under powered and had constant problems with overheating. Never enough to strand me but quite a bit on the bothersome side. Well to make a long story short I was coming home from a trip to see my son about 225 miles away and a head gasket let go, I found out the next day. I thought it was a header gasket so a continued on home. turns out the gasket let go under #6 spark plug to the outside of the head. Didn't lose water or overheat. After getting into the problem I discover that the engine has been experencing a lot of detonation directly caused by the errattic performance of the pro comp dizzy. It is going to be broken into small pieces and thrown into the scrap pile so that I am never tempted to use it again. Fortunatly no engine damage resulted.

Thanks again all who have responded.
Pertrnonix is another option that keeps coming up. I've had people suggest it ot me to run on my 49 Plymouth with the flathead too. Trouble is, I don't really know anything about it and what all is involved. Somebody care to school me a little bit?

I really appreciate that man. I knew it replaced the points, but I wasn't sure how. What about the coil? I've got an aftermarket coil (accell I think). I noticed that pertronix also makes coils and such. Do I need anything else from them or just the actual unit?

You can use your coil but they say the flame thrower supplies a good hot spark. I used my ratty old coil for a while. I later installed the flame thrower.
