Restoring My 1966 F100
A side not on this truck. It appears to have been hit in the drivers side as it has a different driver side fender on it. The frame, fender support, and radiator support seem to be fine so Im hoping it was just a little fender bender. All the glass is in great shape and hopefully it stays that way when they are removed. Gonna have the glass man come and do that, I dont wanna take any chances.
Another thing the trucks vin numbers are gone. The one on the door jam was removed and the one in the glove is gone as well. The only vin number on it is on the windshield. I plan on having the title transfered and wasnt sure if there would be any problems with that as I have never done this before. The title is an Arkansas title. It is signed but not dated back in 1994. He only printed his name on the back and that is it. Are there going to be any issues with this? Thank you for any advice you guys may have.

Got the hood off started sanding it with the DA. There is a bit of a dent/shrinkage of metal arounf the passenger side of the hood. I took a pic of it. It looks like there was a dent and they tried to shrink the metal via a torch or something. Should be an easy fix as the damage isnt too severe. There were also windshield fluid heads in the hood. Wasnt sure if this was stock or not. Took them out and will replace them. There were 2 hood emblems that came with this truck. The other is in a box in the garage. I plan on getting a brand new one for this truck. There is also a slight dent and scratch in the paint that happened while this truck was sitting next to a dumpster. The man I bought this truck off of said that a worker was throwing away a spare rim and he missed the dumpster and the rim landed on the hood a rolled off. There's to slight dents and that is it. I love the sheet metal on the old cars and trucks nothing like what is used in todays cars.

Back side of the hood is in great shape.

Got started on the fenders as well. Got the passenger stripped down for the most part on the outside. The inside is in great shape as well. Should take too much work on these bad boys. You can see the difference in the driver side and the passenger side. The driver side isnt the original one on this truck.

The tailgate on this truck is in pretty good shape. It has a few dents on the inside of it but as for the outside there isnt too much to do. On the outside by the hinge itself where the 2 bolts are that appears to help hold the skin on has cracks in the metal around them. Not sure what the problem was their or even if those bolts were stock. Looks like the metal cracked under too much pressure in those areas. Got most of the paint off but boy its a chore getting in between those grooves. Probably gonna use a sand blaster or a little paint stripper to get in the grooves.

The metal is cracked right around this areas on both sides, top and bottom.

Well thats all the photos I got for now. Should make some more progress on the hood, fenders, and tailgate this week and will post some more pics. Got the truck covered up outside right now and its starting to get cold. Cant get her in the garage yet but hopefully before winter sets in this year. Once again thank you all for the positive feedback it is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the club. Looks like you got a pretty decent project to start with and the price was right too. I noticed that your floor wasn't rusted through at each door where the brace is under the seat. The first thing I do with these trucks is drill at least a 1/2" hole in the bottom of that brace to allow it to drain and maybe save the floor.
Where are you at in Illinois? I am near Flanagan (look between Bloomington, LaSalle, and Pontiac).

If you continue to buy imports, where will your children work?
I seen the truck on craigslist and bought it 3 days later. The guy I bought from works in the construction business I believe and had a former worker owe him 800 bucks. The guy tried bailing on him but he found him and said either pay him the $800 or give him his truck as payment, he gave him the truck. The guy just wanted his money so he sold it for what the worker owed him. I thought it was too good of truck to pass up. Ya my floor boards have a little bit of rust starting in those areas. Seems like a good idea. I hate rusted out floorboards. I live about 35 miles west of Effingham, IL. Flanagan is about 160 miles straight north of me. Thanks for the advice sir.Truckfarmer2 wrote:Welcome to the club. Looks like you got a pretty decent project to start with and the price was right too. Great looking project truck you've got there! That tailgate is from a Bumpside truck ('67 to '72), but at least it's not rusty.

Didnt know the tailgate wasnt original. Its in great shape besides the cracked metal around those two bolts. Gonna have to weld them shut and the back side of the tailgate will be sprayed with rhino bed liner along with the bed. Thanks for letting me know what tailgate it was.Slick Fan wrote:Welcome aboard!![]()

Nice job you are doing, really solid for a midwestern truck too. So are you going to repaint it utility truck yellow?

Lol no I hate that color so much. My clothes and shop floor are covered in that yellow and maroon color from all the sanding. Im gonna be picking between a red or blue color. Not quite sure on exactly what tone but I got some time to figure it out.Greg D wrote:Nice job you are doing, really solid for a midwestern truck too. Got the outside of the hood sanded down. Its in a little rougher shape than I orignally thought. Would love to find another one thats not so dented up. I live in central/south IL if any one has one they would like to sell. I dont mind one that has surface rust just one that isnt so beat up because it will be stripped anyways. Here's some pictures.
