Thanks I dont want to use alot of filler that I will have to grind out later. Some places Im going to have to because unless you take the box apart or remove some things inside of the cab to get a hammer or dolly behind it you just arent going to get the problem fully addressed. The bottoms of the 2 bed corners are the worst rust on the bed and the steps are the worst rust on the cab. You can see in the pics how rusted the bottoms of those corners are. No one makes a repair or patch panel for those. Ive got an older box for my 63 that when I get to that point I plan to remove both corners and rebuild if I dont find a flairside box before then. Im just trying to get this truck to a place where I can put a full epoxi prime on the body that will hold it for a few more years then it will get the same treatment as the 63. I just keep plugging along.

The wrong beds are relatively easy to work on as they are a single wall bed. There is no place on them that is double wall. The worst place on these beds seems to be the rear corner lower panels. To me it looks like it would have been very easy to keep them from rusting out just by running a garden hose yearly down the rear stake pocket on the bed. For now Im just going to bondo up those corners till I get done with my 63. Ive got a 59 bed to go on that truck. Ill be taking the corners off of that bed and totally redoing them. I start slinging some bondo tommorow so Ill post up those pics when I get going on that.Im glad I could be of some assistance to you Ironminer.

Thanks Thomas. Getting some of the pre prime sanding done. Takes a little time getting most of the old rattle can primer off that we put on last year. Oh well staying with it.

Complete sanding done and ready for some primer.
Parked in the home made paint booth.

Clear plastic sheeting will go over the top and sides.

looks very good
i need to deal with the lower back corners on my bed before my lights fall out.
dont really want to bondo again but due to lack of replacement panels and torch tanks for bending steel its likely that will have to be the way i go for now

Thanks Steve and Ice. If I find and easy way to repair those back corners Ice I will definately let you know. It is a regular beot00tch to form that filler into a new panel with not much there to support it. It took me 2 days just to get that part of the bed into place. I would rather not have done that myself but for a solution to hold it for a few years that was about all I could come up with. I saw on Facebook about a year ago someone was supposed to start manufacturing complete corners but nothing has come of it. I was keeping my fingers crossed. You would think with as many of these old styleside beds out there DC or someone would have made a repop panel to weld in.

i have some thick steel mesh screen with square holes that may be easier to form the curves with and i can probably weld it into the existing good sheet metal to give a base for the filler

Ice thats a great idea. I think ive seen some of that stuff under plaster walls or brick masons might use something like that. Ill have to look into that if it comes apart before I get to doing a complete repair on them.
Thanks Ironminer Im in the process of putting it all back together with the proper fender badages and inside dress up a little bit. My wife is redoing the seat and the door inserts and she made a carpet to put in it. Maybe no head liner as I have the lost in the 50s car show comming up this weekend.
