Well after some vacationing time, I got back on the truck yesterday. Worked on it all day but it didn't seem like I got too much done. I fabbed up the hinges for the bed floor gas cap cover. That was a task in itself. Getting the cover to clear the center of the bed floor and not hit the top tail of the bed. (I wish that I had taken some pictures cause this probably doesnt make sense) Took a while but it seems to function now. Also got one of the hinges fabbed up for the center of the bed floor. Everything is cut and tapped for the other one, just not welded together. I still have to make the bed risers for the rear of the bed to ensure that it clears and then build a frame for the wood slats to bolt to. oh the fun of customizing. I also got the tanks cut out finally and the outter shell tacked together. I've got to go back to the shop this afternoon to clean my mess, I'll try to get some pics to post.

I've been busy on the truck. I have the frame built and installed for the bed's wood floor. I am still waiting on the linear actuators to come in. I ordered them 2 weeks ago but the company that I ordered them from was extremely slow shipping them. I have the tilt hood all but completed. I still have to build the tracks and roller bracket for the back of the hood near the firewall. (Thanks you Alan for the how to on this. It really came in handy) We are moving to another shop so I'll be temporarily putting it back together for transport tomorrow. I hate moving but the new shop is 8000 square feet and has AC.
yes, I said AC. No more loosing 10 lbs a day in sweat... Sorry, I don't have any pictures of the hood assembly installed but here are a few of the bed and what I have of the hood.

Nice work Red!, the top pivot points are spot on!, when the bonnet pull`s forward they lean back on the bracket and start the bonnet tilting. Look forward to seeing more pic`s , thanks ....Alan,Reds Rod Shop wrote:

Thanks guys, Alan, I added some stops for the hood to keep it from tilting so far forward. I mounted the hinge on the opposite side of the core support and welded some 1/2 steel plates on the other side. Drilled and tapped them and I have an adjustable stop. Sorry, I'll have to take some pictures to show. I still have to finish the rear hood rests. I have the 1/4" rod bent just need to finish it all up. I did however get the whole truck together for a local show this weekend. Had a lot of good comments on the modifications. Here are some pics of the truck assembled.

Red, The hood looks great. I thought about making different stops for mine so it wouldn't go over as far. It really is easy to get to everything with it standing straight up in front. I thought that it would look better if it sat at an angle. I still might make some and try it.
I made jigs for the roller brackets so that they would be easier to make both sides the same.
Classic Performace Parts sold me the rollers for the back of the hood for $10 each with the shouldered bolt. Pretty good deal.
Keep up the good work.

Wow, what a weekend at the show. John Jackson, from Not Stock Photography came to the shop this afternoon to photograph Money Pit this afternoon for Street Trucks, Blood Sweat and Gears. Pretty cool that he thought enough of it for that. I should have a copy of the pics tomorrow or Wednesday. I'll get one or two of them posted as soon as I do. He did an awesome job.
Kevin. I like your setup. It looks clean. I made a jig for my rear rollers also. The I used c clamps and sockets on a steel table. The guys at the shop made fun of me but they are the same. I picked up the rollers from Home Depot. $4 for steel sliding glass door rollers with the bearings already in them and they fit the 1/4" bar stock perfect.

So far, I only have 2 pics from the photo shoot. I did get the linear actuators installed on the bed. I'm trying to figure out how to upload video to youtube. As soon as I do, i'll link a video of it. I now have everything needed for air ride except the main valve and some fittings. Going to back up and punt with the suspension.

Shop pic looks awesome! What is the plan for your chassis? Are you going to use the air to make it easier to drive with the big wheels or are you gonna try and lay rocker?Reds Rod Shop wrote:Going to back up and punt with the suspension.
Are you going to bring the truck to Shades still? Also, have you heard that a F100 show will be held in Townsend the same weekend? Can't wait to see your truck in person!

Brian, I'm installing the air for driveability but I'm gonna try and get it to lay as low as possible without major body mods. 2 inches lower in the front and about 7" lower in the rear. I'll have to modify the frame on the rear and the fender wells in the bed but other than that, it should be fairly straight forward. It should put the rockers just shy of 2" off the ground. Going lower will require modifying the inner fenderwells under the hood and I'm not sure that I want to do that. Not going to be able to get it to the Shades but i will have it at Scr8pe fest in Concord NC on Sept 24th - 26th. The change in suspension has put me even further behind my "Wishfull thinking" schedule.
Andrew, Glad to see that you finally made it on here. You'll find a lot of good folks on here that are willing to answer any questions that you might have about slicks. Can't wait to see your truck pics on here. Red

Ok, so not much getting done on the truck but I am making some headway on the new shop location. We got the 12000 lb 2 post lift assembled yesterday and about half of the stuff moved over from the old shop. Only the larger equipment left to move now. I have learned that you don't realize how much crap you have until you have to move it all. lol I did finda guy to draw me a rendering of my truck or at least what I want it to look like when it's done. Hopefully, I'll have it in a few more days. He's tweaking a few things on it for me now. I'll post a pic as soon as I get it. Hopefully we'll finish moving the shop next weekend and I can get back to work on the truck.
