57 I6 tranny ??
My 58 f100 with 292/3 speed has a nasty lower end noise...being bucks down I'd like to use a 57 Inline 6 (already have it). Question is will the v8 tranny bolt up to the 6?? Flywheel?? Thanks guys.

Now I am trying to come up with this all out of memory, which stands a good chance of being rather poorly due to my being older than dirt, but as I recall the bellhousings for the V8 and the I6 were different in that the two top holes where it mounts to the engine block were about an inch closer together on the I6 than on the V8. I think the 4spd and the 3spd mounting on the backside of the bellhousing was different. I think as long as both of the trans that you have, both being 3spd with the large input shaft, they should both have the narrow mounting pattern and should interchange. One caveat though is there may be some difference in length of the input shaft if one of them happens to come from a car as I seem to remember that there was a difference but don't remember which was longer or shorter or even if it was these particular transmissions.

my 63 has a 223 and the trans has a 1 3/8 input that is about 7 and a half inches long. i was told it was a big block tranny...
