Who has put a 460 in a straight axle truck?
I know of a 61 Merc that has a 460 in it, what you need is a 460 ci engine and a good straight axel truck.
Time to go shopping again Tom.

ps. The truck I saw is owned by HeavyD460 on the forum, though I don't think he has posted at all. It is tight getting it in, but it does fit.

Ok I will help you tom...
At least this is how I did mine.
First you will have to remove this cross memeber and use a universal Tranny cross memeber.
[albumimg]5862[/albumimg]
You should end up with something like this.
[albumimg]5863[/albumimg]
Next you will need to get one of these. This pic is from LMC but there are a lot of univeral 429/460 cross members.
[albumimg]5861[/albumimg]
If you want to run headers Sanderson has some shorties that fits the 64. The biggest problem with headers is clearing the steering box....
When you buy your univeral cross memeber just be aware of the cheaply built ones. I had this failure and it was not fun... Nearly pushed a mustang into an intersection because I hit the gas with brake on and the motor toqured up and jammed the thorttle.. Not fun by any means good thing that mustang got out of the way and the motor went to normal postion...

If by front cross member (Where the red screw driver is (right above the words)) you mean the Radiator support then yet it will have to stay.36truck wrote:Chris does the front cross member stay?
I only had to cut out the old tranny cross memeber.
Hope that helps, Your question kinda of confusing me.

On mine the radiator support is torched to clear the lower pulley.
I think the driveshaft was 3" too long so they just cut the truck.
Luckily there is a hole in the bottom for a wrench when cranking
the mill by hand.
I too am missing that X member. Its replaced with nothing.
The engine (or integral cross member) rests on two wedge shaped chunks of stick welded iron.

I think I need to get the truck here so I know what I'm looking at. I thought the crossmember was also the engine mount. But now seeing it & thinking about it. It looks to far forward. If by front cross member (Where the red screw driver is (right above the words)) you mean the Radiator support then yet it will have to stay.
So I need the crossmember you said about & do I need a trans crossmember also?

Yes you will need a Tranny cross member. Like this one if your planing on using a c6 I think it might work for a c4 also. You always have the option of using a E40d tranny but then you will have to have a computer which is kinda of easy..36truck wrote:I think I need to get the truck here so I know what I'm looking at. And if the Cross member was where the motor was mounted it's not a straight axle truck which make the swap easier just need new mounts...

Tom
Look in my album and photobucket and see how I did the mounts for the 302. You can do the same thing for the 460 and take the cross member out. I would box the frame in this area a couple of feet and then fab a tranny mount and for the clutch mount you will have to adapt a frame mount to hook up the clutch linkage unless you are going to use a hydraulic clutch which would be a lot easier in my opinion. Measure and have a drive line built and you will be in business.
