how bone stock were slicks built?
how bone stock were slicks built?
i just found and traded a model a body for a '64 short styleside here in az. i went to look at it and found out that this thing is bare. so bare bones and stock that the passenger side visor hole isnt even there. it has a inline 6, no radio, no trim and no trim holes. the guy bought the truck from the original owners in neveda. its rust free. not even pitting on the floors! it had a camper in the bed and carpet on the bed floor. there isnt a scratch or ding in the bed.
the plan is to swap this perfect body onto my lowered rougher bodied '64 chassis, running y-block and "rebuilt everything" frame. then take the other body and put it onto the bone stock frame, inline 6, and original running gear. esentially just swapping bodys and beds for bodys and beds. this way i wont have to do any body work or atleast very little. once its done ill sell the rougher bodied 64

that sounds like a lot of work ....
if the body is that good, i would think the chassis would be pretty good too...and then there is your frame VIN...

they could be had pretty bare bones. does it have a passenger side arm rest?
these things were basically tractors with bodies that could almost do highway speeds.

as far as the ones i had the ones with custom cab trim had some options on it but as bare goes i had one that just like you desrcibed plane jane. drivers side arm rest and sun visor was about the only thing in the cab except for the seat. then there was some that had custom cab option then had dealer installed options
bare bones slick
it will be a good weekends worth of work. ive pulled off a half dozen cabs and beds off frames. ive got it down. the wiring will be a little tricky. but ill mark everything well. the amount of money that i will save in body work is well worth the effort. i have put so much time and effort into my 64s lowering, y-block, and other parts that a perfect body will only make the truck better. i dont want to rebuild and go through everything like i just did. if i swap the bodies im miles ahead

When were you planning on doing the swap? Seems like the easiest way to do it is to swap everything but the cabs. Can you get away with that or is you new cab much nicer as well?
I just stripped two vehicles to the frame recently and the cab was obviously the biggest pain. Garbz was a big help that day.

Since the cab Vin is on the drivers door swap every thing but the drivers door. Or you could chance a Federal Violation and swap the Vin plates off the doors too. I think the rivets for the Vin plate are available (not recommending this route just saying)

the cab is perfect. not a speck of rust. so the cab is definately getting swapped over. the bed is perfect too. im going to keep the who front clip bolted together minus the hood and move that over in one piece. i could just roll one chassis out and the other under. but the new truck has a inline 6 and i dont want that motor. besides my other truck has been lowered so im keeping all of that.
gnant, maybe we can talk garbz into coming over and helping too!
i might just keep the drivers side door for the vin tag or just re rivet it

just take the tag off your door and use it on the donor door. then it will match the frame vin. or did 61-64s have frame vins? as long as you have both titles i can't see a problem.

The door tag is not a VIN number and it is definitely not illegal to move it. The tag on the door is a warrantee data plate The VIN number on a Ford truck is on the frame. It is not illegal to move the data plate and that is why it is not permanently attached as is required of a VIN number. The door tag is held on with push rivets. They are installed without using anything but hand pressure. To remiove the rivets push the center of the backside with a phillips screwdriver and they will fall out. To install them just use a flat ended punch and push the center back flat by hand. Ford made these removeable on purpose. Aside from that, read the Federal law on VIN numbers and you will find out that the law allows you to change them under circumstances such as this although state laws may not.
