how far does the door open?

Post by ICEMAN6166 »

well as i found out early this morning it can be opened far enough so it cant be closed again. :( ?
my wife did not have her door closed and latched so while backing out of the yard this morning a tree reached out and grabbed it and before she could stop bent the door back past the 90 degree point.
comes in wakes me up. i messed up my door.
its 6 am and 15 degrees outside i go out in robe and slippers to see.
gave directions on how to get hinge covers off and what tools to get.
go in have coffee while waiting
loosen 6 door hinge bolts, try closing door dont work.
put large prybar in to hole wher hinge is mounted to cab.
push hard on door forcing hinge against bar, couple good shoves on each hinge. close door. wife inside tightens hinge bolts.
door now closes, has slight bend on front edge and a larger gap between door and fender than it should.
but for a 10 minute repair at an early hour it will do for now.next summer it will have to be fixed right.

I have seen people use the parking meter method with the same result. ...save 50 cents backing into another stall that still has time on it though! :o

Guess Mrs ICE is using the NASCAR method of vehicle exit from now into the forseeable future huh?

Don't mean to chuckle at your expense, but the part about telling her what tools to get and then going inside to sip some coffee kinda made me laugh out loud.

the door opens and closes fine now, just does not look the same.
Terry was already dressed for work and had her coat on.i was just not going to walk around looking for tools in my slippers in the cold. might as well have coffee and wake up so i could get the door fixed.

My wife did that to the door on our Exploder last summer...snagged by a fence she wasn't paying attention to. :?

The main problem is that the hinges are welded to the door & frame. I ended up using a combination of wood blocks & pry bars to straighten it again...and while doing so, I made up for the slop in the worn out bushings. Now it closes like a brand new car!
I really lucked out on that one, usually my luck goes in the completely opposite direction.

I had a problem with the drivers side door shutting properly on my 66. I got out of the truck Had my three kids with me. They all got out the drivers side too. I looked back and see my son repeatable slamming the truck door. I kinda freaked out on him, I hate when they slam the door.

"But dad it will not shut" I feel in my pocket for my cell phone. Guess were it was?

Hey I got a new phone the next day.
