Recommendation on power steering?

Post by my66longbed »

For my 66 f100 2wd, I am looking to convert it to power steering. Can anyone make a recommendation on a power steering setup?

Thanks!

Twin Ibeam I assume. Your options are original Bendix PS unit which is a bolt up, but runs hot, is hard to find and expensive and some people don't like the "feel".

Or you can drop the later Ford "saginaw" unit, which requires shortening of the steering column and a different plate where the column goes through the firewall. It comes though just a little higher, at a slightly different angle.

try www.fordification.com for more info. The 65-66 are so similar to 67-72 that the info there is extreemely useful.

Planned/considered upgrades:
Perhaps power brakes, 300 I6 motor and JUST maybe, AC!

Mine is off a '69 model F100 (pump with cooler and steering gear box)with a '76 model steering column.
My pulleys are off a '65 Galaxie 500. You will need the harmonic balancer and the pulleys off the same vehicle.

I'm sure someone can give you more details then I can.
Good Luck :)
