black powdery smoke from exhaust

Post by Mr. D »

Well when I pull the 66 352 into the garage it leaves a black film on the side of the house. So to keep everything good on the homefront I have been covering the left side of the dual exhaust with a pringles can to keep the black soot of the house.

Tonight I used a white rag and just the 60-120 seconds to pull it into the garage the rag was covered in blak soot.

Any ideas on what I can do to help "Ol Blu" run better.

Thanks Kelly

She's a runnin' rich.
sounds like at low or idle speed -so first you can try turning the idle mixture screw down. On a holley carb it is on the drivers side and you have the truck running, turn it in until the truck stalls at idle, then turn it back out roughly 1 1/2 turns. Adjust to taste.

Best o'

It's a race.. Will hell freeze over or will JC finish his truck first. Stay tuned..

if you are useing a holley carb . and what i know about them you could have a bad power valve this will make the engine run rich and you will get black smoke coming out of the tail pipe .jim

Now THAT's funny!

BTW, I'm not laughing at you, just laughing at the lengths we go to sometimes to keep peace on the homefront!

Oh & yes, it's definitely running rich. If it does it moreso when the engine's cold, having the choke closed will do that too.

If it starts to rain, they'll tax the splash.
If you want to fish, they'll tax the bass.
If you plant a yard, they'll tax the grass.
If you don't play nice, they'll fine your *$#!

Yes it is funny my neighbor said "what are you doing" I said keeping the property values up in the neighboorhood.

Well I still have the stock "autolite" type carb on "Ol Blu", so later today I will pull of the air cleaner and start messing with the idle mixture screw and listen to what happens. :D

I tried to insert an Emoticon at the start of my text, but it kees poping to the end????

Sounds like you're on Firefox? My Firefox does that & it disturbs me. :?
You can move your cursor back to where you really wanted it & manually type it in, just make sure you leave a space on either side, so it doesn't try to tie it in with a word.
Like this...

Code: Select all

word :D word
Hope that helps. :)
