Slick on an '80s frame?

The place to talk Slicks. All we ask is that discussion has something to do with slicks...

Slick on an '80s frame?

Post by 46stude »

1st off, howdy again. Haven't been around in quite a long time (never been on this new location 'til tonite). Wheres JC?

Anyone done that swap?

I've got an '81 F350 thats in need of a new cab & have a line on a '62 F100. My '81 is a flatbed dually, so my main concern is fitment of the '62 cab on my current 1 ton chassis.

I took some quick & dirty measurements-
centerline of front wheel-well to back of the '81s cab is approx 6' 3"
frame width directly under the cab is a little more than 37"
outside of front tire to opposite side is about 6' 4"

Don't have a slick to get the dimensions off of- my '64 went over the scales a year & a half back (ruuuuuuuusty beyond any hope of repair, don't worry!), & the '62 I'm considering is a couple hours away.

The thing I'm most concerned with is the '62s dimension from the center of the front tire to the rear of the cab. My flatbed has a heavy duty rear tailboard, so I really don't want to mess w/ cutting the bed loose to move it.

Modifying cab mounts or frame mounts (or fabbing them up) is no biggie.

Anybody got any advice? Thanx

Slick frame is 34 in wide. The front cab mounts are about 45 1/2 inches from hole to hole. Axle to rear of cab is about the same as yours. Tread width is about 64 in.

Seems like you could make it work, unless your wheel to wheel dim is really that wide, looks like a 12 inch difference...??

Thanks for the info.

My track width isn't that much wider- its just that duallys have the face of the front wheels at the extreme outside of the rims.

Sounds like I may be doing a swap, unless the '62 I want gets sold before I get to it. I really miss my '64 F250, so if I can do this project, it'll be like bringing it back from the dead. I'll even paint it the same color.

i put an 82 cab and bed on a 67 F250 4X4 frame, had to make some mounts but was no big deal.drove it for several years until the Michigan salt cancer it had finally did it in.
