Re: Steve's 64 Short-bed Project
Going to Concord, NC today to drop by Dennis Carpenters. The showroom, etc. are not open because of this stupid virus. I had to order by phone and have car-side pick-up.
Re: Steve's 64 Short-bed Project
WELL......Happy Birthday little fella.
SO, you,re slipping by Dennis Carpenters to get your Birthday present, HOW COOL is that.....
wonder how much of it is needed...verses, shiny, or just plain mouth watering.
Waiting to see.............

Valve Cover Gaskets....lol. Not too shiny or mouth watering....although I did look through my Dennis Carpenter catalog before I went. I had to call my order in beforehand and call them when I arrived. They brought it out to my vehicle. I so wanted to go inside and look around...oldsmiley wrote:WELL......Happy Birthday little fella.

Anyway, I will be home later this week and will get my valve covers re-installed. I miss driving my truck.
Re: Steve's 64 Short-bed Project
I miss driving mine too.....
But I've got a busy schedule at work for the next 3 weeks, and with the current heat I can't work on it....especially to get it all done before then.
SO, I guess it will be several weeks before I can even get started on it. People don't even wave at me in my wife's car, or my other truck, because they don't recognize the vehicles.
But when they see my 64 coming down the road (even from a half mile away) they KNOW who it is.....
You can bet on one thing, i WILL be a happy little rascal when it's fixed.

Re: Steve's 64 Short-bed Project
Not much to report. Valve cover gaskets installed and I "fiddled" with my Tonneau cover some. I didn't like the way the hinge looked....so I removed it and re-worked the back section that flips up. I came up with a way to make the two sections "interlock" and it works great and there is not a hinge laying there on top of the two sections. It still has a smooth look to it...
I worked on the shock absorber mount on the passenger side for about 3-4 hours last night. I drilled out the rivets that held the upper shock mount to the frame and moved it closer back toward the axle so the shock absorber is more upright. I had to modify the lower mount also, by lengthening it about 4 inches so that the shock would have some travel. When you lower a truck you have to move the mounts or your shocks will be 45 degrees horizontal to the motion of the axle. They are not as effective at that angle. I'm hoping to get out there this evening and redo the driver's side.
Then drive it....
Stay tuned....Summer is only half-way over....lol....

Looking good "like a 64 should".
Pretty sure your truck got a lot of attention at the cruise-in. I had a nice aluminum 64 grill I bought for mine about 6 years ago, and not being able to bring myself to put anything shiny on my truck, I just sold it to a friend Thursday who's doing a 64 crown-vic swap. I'm getting rich quick too, I sold it to him for $30.00 less than what I paid for it.
He's a young 46 year old doing his 1st truck, and I just wanted to ADD to his excitement over the grill.
I'm liking that Red sticker in you rear window.
Oh" and I keep admiring your body moldings too.....don't look the other way for any length of time....LOL

Re: Steve's 64 Short-bed Project
Still here...driving the truck...not much else to report right now. Enjoying seeing and reading about some of the other truck projects and builds on here for now.
I did finish relocating the rear air shocks to a more vertical position which made a world of difference in the ride quality of the truck. We have a few cruise-ins going on in the area, so that is good.
Stay tuned....

Hey Steve, that truck just looks so right every time you post another picture of it. I'm not sure how far from Jefferson, NC you are, but was curious if you've ever been to the cruise-in they have there. They also do a pre-cruise-in tour of about 50-60 miles through the area I think once a month. A friend of mine went last weekend and had a ball. I hope to make the one in September. The group is Midnight Ridge Runners (I think that is correct) and of course they have a FB page.
Anyway the truck looks awesome and still hoping to catch up with you on one of your trips to Salisbury

Re: Steve's 64 Short-bed Project
My brother lives in West Jefferson and they have a small cruise-in at Smokey Mountain BBQ from time to time. I've been there for it. I will have to check out the one in Jefferson...that is a reasonable driving distance. My wife and I might try to make it for the September cruise-in.My wife's nightmare wrote:Hey Steve, that truck just looks so right every time you post another picture of it. Re: Steve's 64 Short-bed Project
For everyone out there close to West Jefferson, NC...Big cruise-in being held there September 26th at 5 p.m. on Main Street. This is hosted by Blue Ridge Midnight Runners Rod Run and they have a Facebook page "Blue Ridge Midnight Runners." They had 300 vehicles present at the July cruise-in. I have marked my calendar for that Saturday and plan to be there. Looking forward to possibly meeting some of you (Jeff, Doug) there.
Re: Steve's 64 Short-bed Project
I wish I could go, but I'm still broke down. Been busy with other important things, plus too hot to work on my truck right now.
Also doing the F-100 Supernationals in Seveirville Tn. the weekend of Sept. 24-26 anyway.
Then maybe I'll get it fixed. Also looking forward to a few days to spend at America's largest BLOCK party....."Cruisin' The Coast" (The Gulf Coast) for my 1st time ever. I can't wait.....

Hi Steve, your truck is looking good. Cruise -in in w Jefferson sounds good. Blue truck hasn’t made a Trip that far so might chicken out and trailer, but sounds like fun. You will have to give heads up next trip to carpenters and swing by the shop.

Thanks for getting the correct info about West Jefferson! I am planning to be there for the ride prior to the show downtown, hoping to be at the high school before 1:00 but supposed to have a few buddies coming too so we'll see what happens. I'll send you a PM shortly. I'll also work on JeffinMooresville and get him there too!!

Re: Steve's 64 Short-bed Project
Driving the truck to the local cruise-in this past Saturday evening and I noticed that the brake pedal didn't feel right. It seemed to take more pressure to apply the brakes. I finally had time this morning to "poke around" and find out why...

Initially, I was upset at finding this, but at this juncture, I'm thinking that I will just "mig" the stud back into the booster and keep on driving. Stuff happens...lol.

Re: Steve's 64 Short-bed Project
When it comes to the point of "fix it or replace it" I always try the fix it technique 1st. I love the way you solve problems.....

Re: Steve's 64 Short-bed Project
That is the first time I have ever seen a stud do that. Sorry it happened to you but thank you for sharing something else to look for when having brake issues.
An update on the pre-show cruise in West Jefferson: They are NOT doing one this month. There will be one in October. I am still planning to go to the show downtown Saturday the 26th and will be looking for a little white 64!!
