Narragansett wiring harnesses

I ran across this gentleman at the AutoFair in Charlotte, NC yesterday and got to look at and touch the harnesses he has for 65 and 66 trucks. Very nice pieces! He did tell me his father recently passed away and the state he lives in has a law from the 1800’s that requires a business to shutdown for several months if the owner dies. After that, it will spend several additional months in probate. He had to let all of his employees go and the website is non-functional. He is still “in business” through phone orders. Hopefully he can come out of this and stay in business. Really nice man who seems to care about old cars and trucks and his harnesses are made in America.

That business is in Rhode Island . I have lived here my entire life. I have never heard of any law requiring a business to shut down if an owner dies.

He may have been giving me bad info but he was very upset about it and has a lawyer trying to assist him. Might have something to do with the will because his mother passed a few years ago.

It's probably incomplete info to you. If a will was involved or nothing was put in place to handle what happens if the owner dies, then I can see how that may cause something like that. In that case, saying that the business must shut down if the owner dies is the simple explanation, rather than the more nuanced and complicated actual reason, which could be more than an outside party needs to know, depending on the circumstance.
