The disgust I feel for the remake of GI60S and Jerry Bruckheimer can't be written on a family forum. The 'new' Eleanor was rather overdone, and I guess so 'valuable' (I forget how many they made) they dare not actually smash it up like the original. Which totally defeats the purpose of the movie, really. The chase sequence in that film, aside from silly CGI effects (the jump at the end is so obviously fake), is about as exciting as anything that's ever appeared on The Dukes Of Hazzard. All that money, and wasted on computer tricks and fancy actors. Halicki is probably kicking his coffin trying to get out to strangle the people who made it.
Funny how many of the best car chases are done using Fords, and even (gasp) Mustangs. :)

I bought my '84 GT because:

Pony car with 5.0, 5spd, RWD, (wanted something new after driving Crown Vics)
Huge aftermarket so I can upgrade at will
Foxbodies are very rare around here

About GI60S - I liked the remake better. I think the storyline was fleshed out better than the original where half the movie was the 'chase' which was really just an excuse to crash as many cars as he could on film. If they'd cut the chase scene in half I think they'd be pretty equal.

Not to disparrage mustangs...
This guy has taken tons of heat for this wreck.
Happened on Saturday at a huge local show

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BbE9pUx8FCQ

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7I_AQslfj2U

Turns out the throttle stuck. It was the owners father who was driving. Shook him up.

A couple guys say there is a service bullitin for the issue. Something about the pedal sticking to the carpet
Someday I'll get another slick :(

Mazlem, IMHO you should leave that car bone stock and just detail it to perfection. It will only go up in value that way. It's a nice car! If you do insist on modding (it's your car) don't do anything irreversable and save every part, bolt, washer, etc. so you can put it back to stock easily. Non repoped parts, buy spares when you find them and mothball em. They are already going up now.

the most intense car chase I think I have witnessed was in "deathproof" the second movie in "grindhouse". it just wont be the same on dvd.

we could hijack it with that subject. I think one of the pressing issues would be whether to run exhaust stacks or not. I like running the pipes out ahead of the rear tires, but with a step side bed, stacks might be cool. kinda like a li'l red slick express...lol

Nooooo.
You want a story with your movie? Puh-leeze!
But seriously, I'll agree that Halicki was not much of a screenwriter. Heck, the original script was only about 10 pages of dialogue, and most of it was made up as he went. So yes, I generally use the 'chapter selection' on my DVD to get to 'the good stuff'. :)
However, my beef is that they had an opportunity to fix all the shortcomings of Halicki's home-made movie while still retaining the true spirit, and that was a real, live action car chase with precision driving, big wrecks and no unnecessary BS (like 14 shots of Nick Cage's boots working the pedals to extend the run time). Even the remake of Italian Job, which has zero to do with the original, managed to pull off a good story and a halfway decent car chase without looking like a cartoon.

OTOH, I will never defend Halicki's follow-up film Junkman, which is just simply horrible.

There is no way the remake is even in the same league as the original. The original showed us what a crime ring does for a living almost like a documentary. The crudeness was part of what made the movie. There was no apology for being car thieves, just the business of being a car thief. The remake was a total waste of effort and money. About as bad as the remake of Vanishing Point, they tried to give the car thieves morals by having them stealing cars to save somebody. lame.gif

:iagree: Nice FOX! It is very hard to find one that is not modded to death or beat the hell out of!

I need to check in more often! LMMFAO at this thread! If the OP thinks that the Mustang is lacking, he should take a little spin in my '04 Mach 1! Nothing but SPM(smiles per miles)! 300+ HP, 22~24 mpg and freakin awesome to look at, and the shaker dancing when you hit it! PURE SEX!
We drove one of those "Grand Ams" with the 6.0.......quick....yes! Looks......... BLAH! Corvette......well I don't have LD syndrome.........and I need a back seat, I do have little tykes to take with me.
The Mustang is well built, it can take a beating and still get you there 150,000 miles later. My '90 is a daily driven testament to Fords engineers building near bullet proof motors. The Mustang has a very large following and is STILL IN PRODUCTION!

I have owned a few Pony Cars as have my kids & other members of my family, in fact my Grand Daughter has a sweet 06 Fastback right now. I like mid 80's T-Birds and 61 (65- 66 especially) thru 79 F Series Ford trucks, tho.

You'd have to know me to really understand some of the things I do. I was working with FoMoCo in FORD Dealerships in the late 50's through early 70's. By 1973 I was Sercvice Manager in a medium size Dealership. We spent a lot of time correcting stupid Quality Related warranty claims for really diasppointed customers.

With the advent of the '74 production run I was at my wits end. The only thing FoMoCo was building that was worth owning, IMHO was F-Series Trucks, and they were overpriced junk at that.

When it got to the point I couldn't look in the customer's eyes, and give them an honest, truthful, accurate answer or worse solve some really stupid problems that came with some of the newer cars I was forced to walk away. The Door was open for the rush & onslaught of what came next. You can thank the big three for the Japanese Junk that came along. Unlike Detroit, Tokoyo listened to what their dealers said, and changed to suit what the US MARKET wanted.

By the 1980s American Automobile production was in the sewer for sure. Of the big 3, only FoMoCo went to the engineering dept, and wind tunnel, then a labratory to actually make serious changes. 1983 T-Birds had over $7M spent on design & Aero Efficiency. EFI was introduced in probably the biggest automotive experiment ever perpetrated on an American Public. it went from primitive CFI or Central Fuel Injection, known as TBI or Throttle Body Injection, thru port injection, to tuned port injection (TPI) to sequential tuned port & finally from Speed Density to Mass Air Flow Sensed (MAFS/TP-EFI) where it's at now and America paid for that.

My point is, greed & stupidity of American Manufacturers in general, not just Automotive saw cheaper production cost & less fiscal responsibility by "out sourcing" to off shore production schemes & facilities. Of course we exported our key technology, Jobs, employment base & our economy too, a frightening thought at best. Tom Friedman, a writer & journalist for the NY Times wrote a book called the World Is Flat, which is now in paper back. Mr Friedman not only addresses what happened (to a degree) but he also lays out how we can get out of what we have both allowed, and have put ourselves into here. I suggest y'all read his book before this next '08 election coming up.

Japan used to be a problem. I'd tell you now it has become China, Korea, India, Malayasia & whatever 3rd world, developing country willing to let it's people & children work for nothing, then die like paupers & slaves while a few wealthy people prosper. . . . .

Something that hurts my heart is how Anybody in this Nation could buy a vehicle named KIA? Where I come from, and to all the good folks I spend my time with, KIA= Killed In Action. IT IS an INSULT to me, to them & to all those who died for us to fill this nation with cheap cars with that name.

AHhh but who the hell am I? :hm: shrug.gif

Oh and thanks for that uplifting post Pete, can't wait to tell my step son what KIA stands for, not that he would give a crap.

Damn, my step daughter has one too, and I've done some minor repairs to it. cry.gif

Every enhancement you talk about could just as easily have been done to a Torino, a T-bird, or even a maverick.
All you have done is re-enforce my original concept.
I sure hope Ford can create a REAL sports car before they start losing customers to manufacturers like KIA and Daihatsu.
You're killing me! With all the restrictions emplemented on car manufactures from the EPD, and you think a 320 or even a 390 HP vehicle is losing the publics interest. Lets see KIA or DIAHATSU give you that kind of performance and relibility For $30,000~35,000. :nono:

I'm not sure you've done anything except give an opinion. We all have different tastes. Some people get offended and take these statements as personal attacks. Almost like telling someone their kid's dumb and/or ugly.
