Why would anybody buy a T bird?

Post by shawns fords »

I mean come on! They have to be one of the lamest cars ever built, the first ones trying to resemble somewhat of a corvette to them big bulky gas hog slow ass pigs of the 60s to the even bigger slow ass pigs of the 70s and rattle traps from hell. then they started to resemble jelly beans in the 80s and 90s then discontinued until the new Retro styles of the 50s came back out in a vehicle that absolutely has no use for anyone with more than one passenger. oh and they also slow ass pigs not to mention the cost to buy one. could buy a viper or a corvette and drive around town in style with power.
not to mention the people that drive them think their coffee is called a latte and sportsroofs are called fastbacks as well as no other car out there is better than theirs, henct my stereotyping here which they would probably think im typing in doubles (stereo -typing)

Shawn. I like mustangs of the eras 64 1/2 to 70 especially '70
and the VERY last fox bodies, and whatever they call the sx90s or whatever they are now.
but. I would drop (almost) any mustang to have a 5-6-7 Tbird. They are definitely in the top 5 of the coolest cars Ford EVER made. The front clip leaded in from the factory with NO seams,, they make the Corvettes they competed with look like plastic jam cans.

True, someone had a huge brain fart after 1957 and the '58's, along with the whole rest of Fords lineup for '58, were BIG, HEAVY, and UGLY. That ugly never really left the T-bird until they brought out the retros ca. 1999, and they were just too plasticky and underpowered to sell. If they had shoved a 5.4 Lightning supercharged mill in them, they would have sold like freakin' hotcakes, but whoever runs Ford, can never seem to see the damn forest for the trees.

So yes, there were a good 20+ years of horribly ugly and massively lard-assed T-birds. but the 5-6-7's ain't them.
It's a race.. Will hell freeze over or will JC finish his truck first. Stay tuned..

Whoa, Wait a Minute, :hm: HOLD IT . . . .Right There All I can say is excuseme.gif

I wrote a response to this post, but when I thought about it & I realized I can't argue or debate against ignorance so I deleted it and went for a ride in my T-Bird instead.

It's one of the jelly bean fox platform deals with a refitted FoMoCo 5.0L SVO MAFS/TP-EFI with EEC-IV Logic, a history of turning low 12s in 120's range in street trim on pump gas. This 30th Anniv edition is full power everything with the digital instrumentation, A/C, dark tinted glass, total progressive suspension, .03 drag coefficient @ 120 Mph, progressive downforce loading from 60mph upwards. It scales 2980 wet [lighter than a Pony Car], but has +4inches of wheel base and +2inches of track width too. It is the year before the #9 T-Bird Bill Elliot set the lap speed record at Talladega with in 1986. I guess a lot of stupid people notice my T-Bird Elan' coupe because I constantly get compliments & positive remarks. Maybe it's the Black on Pewter with a red 5 line accent stripe it came with, or the OEM Alloy wheels, or turbo coupe hood I added, or dark tint glass, or. . . .

Point is not all T Birds are the Road Loads you decry & tho I understand & agree on your reasons for your rant, I do resent being stuffed mercilessly into the same category as the one who is a focus of your rant. My T-Bird is certainly no crap can, and definitely not a slug What am I Collateral damage because I own a T-Bird?

I just ignore the offender your Ire is aimed towards. He has too much time to waste by dissing people wholesale as he does. I have complained about that outside this forum, in fact, but I hold my self in check.
So now as a result I get dissed because he owns a land yacht & I own a fairly nice car but since both have same brand name it's okay to throw me under the Rag On Him bus too?

Apologies to FBP, I thought of those cars when I wrote my piece, but I am not gonna list 'em as beauty queens, still, even though what you say is all true.
To me Tbirds have 2 seats. All the rest are pretenders, if I can say that without offending you..

I guess I own a pretender then  I got it for a great price, talk about being in the right place at the right time. I like it but isnt on my list of cars id go searching for. Do think the sequential taillights are cool though.

Just reading the title had me laughing.
Heck, why don't we just start listing all the total turds Ford has offered us over the years? We wouldn't even have to get into those great captive imports like the Aspire, either.
I'd like to nominate...

The Cordoba of Ford Motor Company. If it hadn't provided rodders with a supply of rear disc brake axles, this car would have no redeeming value whatsoever.

I like '66 T-birds. Almost bought one cheap a while ago.
Besides, your car is extra cool because it has 'Shelby' taillights.

Pete I am sorry if you took this towards you, and I do apologize, however I am curious to see that 120 mph T bird  esp in low 12s up here our cars turn 120mph with a high ten second time. that would really have to be a spun up turbo or blower to get them sorts of mph in a 1/4 mile atleast at 8600 feet elevation. not saying your full of it, but it sure is a rare car to do that. our cuda makes 12.02- 12.04 passes and might hit a 110 mph running out of gear with corrected elevation of about 6800.
send me pics! :D
and yes I usually do ignore the ignorant, but coming from this message board I was appalled at how someone could make posts about other ford products. im used to haring this crap on chevy boards

I had a 77 with a 351w that would fly. I mean it wasnt quick but it was pretty fast for what it was. It was a warrior too. I tried to kill it many times. anyway I like the 60's tbirds. the 62 with the bullet shape is nice. the interiors are pretty cool too. I even like the 68-69 4door.

what? is that wrong?

The member in question has a different sense of humor, which can easily can be taken the wrong way but has actually made some interesting posts and threads with some of the longest legs here, thats why we're here everybody has a opinion, right or wrong who knows.
