What is the difference in Radiator supports?

Post by class115 »

My 1966 F-100 (six cyl)is beeing re painted but needs a new rad support.
In all of the catalogs only cary the F-100s up to 1964. The 65-66 suports are always listed as F-250/350. Can any one tell me what the diferrece is and if I can make a F-250 support work in my F-100?
Thanks

Banjo will come along here and tell you how to modify the new 61 to 64 supports into a 66. Done by Charlie.

The '65-66 supports the catalogs are listing are probably 4x4 supports. The 2x4 supports are the same for F100's & F250's in their respective years (I'm pretty sure  ).
'65 supports are different than '66 supports.

Put the body guy off for a day & let Banjo reply to this thread, for modifying a '64 support.

With the new repop ones, the main difference is how the radiator mounts and the inner fenders. On the 61-65 the radiator brackets are on the core support on the 66' they're on the radiator itself. the other main difference is the 65-66 have the squarer inner fenders with the angle spot welded to the support and the 61-64 have the rounded ones that are bolted. If you buy a repop you either fab new or transfer your inner fender brackets, and cut down the gussetts on the new support to make room, it was only about a 1'' I think, then get either a radiator for a 65' or take your 66' to a rad. to flip the brackets or cut off the brackets on the new support which the latter looks to be a pita. It only took a hour or two and they're very nice quality. Hope this helps.

Here is a pic of a couple of areas on a 64/65. WK (needmoretime) has more pics and we're going to make thread in the hints sect.

A good thread in the hints section would definitely be a good thing, since this topic sure comes up a lot. :)
Nice comparison pics so far, Charlie. :thumright:

so the fenders bolt up fine, its just the inner fenders that have the problem...

and the Radiator support is different...

I don't plan on running the stock inner fenders so thats not an issue (Air ride with CV front end) and the radiator is going to be replaced as well so looks like I need to order my support.

So far what I thik everyone si saying is to buy the 1964 support, remove the rad support brackests, AND that the inner fenders wil NOt bolt up without modifications
