when ever I feel this way I just let mine sit til i feel inspired again. i see something new like a mustang or well... mustang (everything else is fwd) i think about what makes my truck worthwhile. but I am not worried about the kind of things that you are like gas milage, A/C, that kind of stuff. if you decide to sell and go newer, I hear ford makes a good truck...

After 8 years I got tired of Torinos this spring.
I bought a slick and got my car fever back.
Then I started fixing it.

Now I like Torinos again
Someday I'll get another slick :(

Ditto on what ABA said. Although I must admit I do tend to work in spurts. Nice thing about having several toys, one of them is always interesting to mess with because they are all so different. Sometimes I also get caught up with "what next sindrome" just don't know where to begin. After awhile though some idea will come to me and I'll usually go right on after that one and a couple other things done before the next break.

I think the hot weather is getting to you. Give it a break a while, you`ll feel better. Don`t sell it, you`ll be sorry. It doesnt cost anything to let it sit. Besides, we enjoy reading your post`s. Dale

Doc, You have to do what ever floats your boat!,I sold my f1 pickup because I thought I wanted a hot rod, after 8 years of slow progress and only minor problems to go with no go in me, I reliesed that wasn`t what I really wanted. After just ploding around for a while I picked up My old copies of custom & classic truck magazines the next thing I know I`m looking for a 66 f100 with my wifes blessing and after finding a web site I now refer to them as slicks. The 28 Hi-Boy tudor with 8ba sidie was sold off ,a great relief was felt once it was gone and I now have two slicks both in very different condition, the SLICK 60`S club and a whole bunch of new truck buddies and couldn`t be happier. :D

Doc, the truck is payed for just use it as a extra, buy a decent used vehicle, and take a break. If you sell it you might just miss that ol' truck.

Doc,
I also stand with the 'dont do it' bunch. I know at times it seems there is no end, but once it is all sorted out, you are a lot of dollars ahead to keep the old slick, over getting a newer pickup. My pickup gets me a little better than 17 MPG, not that much lower than a new one, and certainly not enough to justify a new or newer purchase. My pickup is my main drive, but I have two Geo Metros for high MPG requirements.

When you own a Slick, you own it for better, or for worse, but once it's gone . . . . . . . it's gone for good . . . . .

Besides anything used, that's driveable & affordable, will most likely have all those digital controls & EFI etc. :peepwall:

Are you using your truck as a daily driver? If so, why not look at getting something slightly more modern to use as a daily and just drive the truck occasionally? That way you can tinker with it and enjoy it without having to rely on it as a primary means of transportation. It should make the whole experience much less stressful.

That would seem to make more sense than slipping a six into a beat '65 T-bird to use for a DD..

Notice I said "less stressful" and not "stress-free".

A 223 might work in the T-bird, but I'd say it's more trouble than it's worth. I'm keeping mine in my truck for originality, but I don't think I'd bother swapping it into anything else.

There must be another option. I'm sure you can find a lightly-used later model used car somewhere, probably late-80's, early 90's vintage with a/c and fuel injection?

Hey Doc, just from me reading your posts, sounds like you might just have too many coals in the fire. You talk about fixin' the Slick, then getting an all around beat around car, then a motorcycle...!

Think you just need to take a deep breath, scrap the motorcycle idea, buy a new bicycle and put all your money into your Slick so you can join us in Kansas City and brag to everyone what a damn smart guy ol' Max is.

...or I'll be there if you wanna give me a whoopin' too, I guess.

I don't know if it is the 110* pea soup known as 'The Monsoon season" that I am breathing. I don't know if it is all the nice used cars for sale on the sides of the road, selling for less than the cost of installing A/C in my slick. I don't know if it is the 100 miles between repairs I am experiencing.

But I am rapidly losing interest in slicks.

Doc

I would consider putting it up for sale but I am too tired to put out the effort of writing the add and paying for the newspaper space whatever.gif
Doc, are you seriously having to do repairs to your truck every 100 miles? Up until Dec. 2002, I was driving my 67 F100 352-3speed on the column, no PS,PB or A/C as my DD to jobs all over the country. I even drove it 2500 miles from Florida to California and 2500 miles back without a hitch. That was during the summer as well. I afforded the fuel at that time with the money that would have been the monthly payment on a newer vehicle. If the truck is reliable, spend the money on the A/C and continue to enjoy the truck. If you just want something different, then park the truck and get a new toy to enjoy, then go back to the truck later. You will miss it if you get rid of it. Good Luck and take care. :D

I get frustrated, but I know I would regret it if I sold her. Not only that it doesn't cost me nothing for it to sit there. I just take a break and always come right back, because it is still fun.

i will have had mine for 2 years in october. after months of engine diagnosis, attempted repairs, and finally a swap, a tranny swap, odds and ends parts being added for an attempt at drivability (a few new dizzies, driveshaft, oil pump, oil pan) throwing money at it when i have it... I understand his point. right now I am at the point where I can drive mine around a bit, but it isnt "right". oh yeah... its getting there, but in 2 years and more tows home than I care to admit i have probably driven the thing 30 or so times and the farthest was 14 miles one way and the 14 back.

sometimes it would be nice to not have to worry about it. for the money I have spent I could have another truck made after 1990 that i can just get in and drive anywhere. a truck that doesnt make babies cry when they ride in it<true story

anyway I get where he is coming from. im just too hard headed when it comes to mine.
